Match-Up of the Night: Parker vs. Harris
Tonight’s game against the Nets is the beginning of a particularly grueling stretch for the Silver and Black. We close out the month of January with 5 more games: Nets, @ Lakers, @ Utah, @ Phoenix, New Orleans. I would argue this is the toughest 5 game stretch we have had all season.
And although the easiest of the 5, don’t believe tonight’s home game against New Jersey is a sure fire W. This Nets team is playing at a level far above anticipated. Vince Carter has continued to show focus and hustle despite being over 40 games into the season. Brook Lopez is having a very respectable rookie year. And Devin Harris is playing all-star caliber ball.
When Harris was traded away from Dallas last season, I wave of relief washed over me. No Western Conference point guard had widdled his way into Parker’s head the way Harris had. For the Spurs to defend their home floor, Parker is going to need to bury his fear and lock down on Harris.
That is assuming Harris actually plays this evening. He is listed as day-to-day because of some bruising to his ribs. If Devin doesn’t suit up, the chances of New Jersey stealing one go down significantly. That being said, that isn’t how I like to get a win. Yes, this is a tough upcoming stretch but I’d love to go into with the momentum that is built by a convincing win over a full-healthy opponent. The game starts at 8:30 Eastern/7:30 Central.
