Other People: Hoops Addict and Celtics Hub
There were a couple of interesting spurs-related posts around the internet this week that I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention.
First, Ryan McNeill, Editor of Hoops Addict, had a chance to sit down with Roger Mason and George Hill after our loss to Toronto. For me personally, the most interesting part of the two interviews was learning about the role faith plays in the life of Roger Mason:
McNeill: We couldn’t talk before the game because you were heading to chapel. So, I’ve got to ask, how has your faith helped you stay with your NBA dream when some guys might have given up?
Mason Jr.: My faith has been everything for me. The personal relationship I have with God and just knowing that he’s always there has been everything because it’s not always been easy. There were times when it didn’t look good for me and I didn’t know if I would play, let alone be back in the NBA. So just staying consistent and keeping the faith has meant everything to me.
Swing by Hoops Addict and check them out. And if you don’t stop by Hoops Addict often already, you really should. Ryan and the boys do an excellent job covering the NBA.
I also wanted to introduce everyone to the newest member of the TrueHoop network, Celtics Hub. Although Zach and Brian will primarily be covering Boston, Zach had some pretty sweet seats for the Spurs-Nets game on Tuesday. The post features some great anecdotes about Pop and the boys, as well as some pictures from his seat that make me outright jealous.

Celtic Hub’s field trip to the Spurs/Net game was a great find, Graydon. I more than enjoyed reading it, so thanks for the recommendation.

The reason I began being a fan of the Spurs at the beginning of their first championship season was because I read an article about David Robinson and his walk with God. I’ve often wondered if Duncan is a Christian or not, especially since he was so close to Robinson but it is wonderful to see Mason doing similar things. Thanks for the link.

Jordan,
On Duncan, I think not. It’s difficult to say. Occasionally, he’ll make a reference to being “blessed” or some such. This has some implications, but nothing concrete enough from which to draw conclusions. Perhaps, we should just take the unspoken profession as a dogma of its own.

Oh, and Graydon, I just read at Basketbawful that you were accepted to grad school at Northwestern. Congratulations, man.

Thanks a lot Latin_D. I’ll admit I’m pretty excited.

I forgot to ask, what are you studying?
Also, is there any way to subscribe to the site so that I don’t have to keep typing my info when I switch computers? A bit of a newbie question to ask, but I’m getting old, so not understanding how this computer thingie works fits.
Stuff is happening on the NBA. Trade season just began and JON went to the Heat for Marion. Didn’t see that one coming… It’s funny how hardly ever fans and journalists guess on what trades will be carried out. In my opinion it makes more sense for Miami than it does for Toronto. Colangelo sort of admits he made a huge mistake when he signed JON, gets some salary relief, but now has Bargnani and Bosh as their frontcourt. What’re your thoughts on this move, Tim, Graydon?
And I can’t believe they gave them Moon. Even though I was the only one that still loved him.

Latin_D,
Quickly: It doesn’t help or hurt either team enough for me to concern myself with it. Your take is more or less my take.
Long term, I think Bosh is growing weary in Toronto. If the Spurs maintain cap flexibility, that makes him a theoretic possibility to land in San Antonio, July 2010.
Pat Riley is just placating Wade with a name.

I think Riley is doing more than that. He just secured a big expiring contract to create room for 2010. If he had kept Marion, he would have to sign someone this summer and risking that it doesn’t work out and then losing Wade. Instead, he can sign Wade first on a promise that they will sign one big FA.
As for Bosh to the Spurs…**crosses fingers** …although I don’t know if it makes financial sense.
