…after a tough loss.

  • This really does help :)

  • I got goosebumps.

  • Love it. Goosebumps here as well.

That may be my 2nd favorite memory as a Spurs fan. #1 would be Sean Elliot’s Memorial Day Miracle with the aftershot of David Robinson running in the player tunnel high-fiving the fans on the way out.

  • I still get goosebumps no matter how many times I watch that. I love the emotion Duncan shows (something that is even more sweet because he rarely shows it).

  • Really is one of the great moments in Spurs history

  • That’s funny. I got goosebumps as well and thought that I was getting a little too emotional over it. After reading that 3 others had the same exact reaction, I feel better.

  • In a weird way, that game is either like 9/11 or a wedding day, depending on who you ask, and I don’t mean that in bad taste. As a Spurs fan, I can remember exactly where I was sitting when I saw that, who I was watching the game with, and how loud I screamed. It was a thing of beauty, something I’ll never forget. I get the goosebumps, too. Years from now, I’ll ask my fellow Spurs fans about that game, and we’ll all recall it like a miracle. Just like Sean’s shot.

But I doubt Phoenix fans will ever forget it, either. It proved to be the death knell for that franchise. Two coaches and a bizarre trade later, and they must still look back in indignation. I mean, come on. A Tim Duncan three-pointer! Incredible.

  • That was probably the most incredible moment I’ve witnessed in my short sports watching career, up there with Phelps’s comeback extra stroke and Tiger’s one legged Open win, and the best game.

I was watching the game in the house lounge of my dorm, split between Spurs and Suns fans, and when Manu kicked it out, and Tim hit it, the Spurs fans shot into the air in exultant disbelief, while the Suns fans slumped in shocked disbelief. It was ridiculous.

  • Me too…i got goosebumps too. This game is ultra special for me as this was the 1st game i ever saw at the AT&T center. I live in Dallas and had driven down to SA. Additionally, as soon as this game was over, i found out that the Mavs had lost. one of the best days ever!

  • I was in a bar in Chicago with my mother, of all people. I was so nervous, I got completely drunk at 3 in the afternoon. When Tim hit that shot, I hugged some random waitress and almost accidentally tackled her to the ground. Everyone in the bar was laughing out loud and patted me on the back as I left (No one cared about the game. Everyone was watching the Cubs). I don’t think I stopped smiling for the rest of the day.

  • This is the video that gives me the goosebumps every time I watch it.

    It’s Manu-related not Spurs-related but, you’ll understand

  • Going back to the original video, I remember calling my dad and my uncle who were watching the game at their respective homes almost yelling “what a play…I just can’t believe what just happened!!!”

  • I remember it well too. I was at a gambling bar, there were like 20 tv on the wall, most of them showing meaningless beginning of the seasons games but most people were watching Suns and Spurs. There were like 30-40 people in that room and this other guy and me were the only ones who supported the Spurs, when that shot went in I jumped out of my seat and scream “Timmy!
“. Most of them stared at me very unfriendly like and mumble stuff to people in their tables. I didn’t care.

  • I was in my house in Palestine, and I couldn’t find a good internet TV feed so I was listening to the game on WOAI. It was 11pm at night (or so) and i was the only one awake in my house. . . . After that shot, I was not the only person awake in my house.

  • Actually what I liked the most is that 3 days later people (from wherever) still couldn’t get over the fact that Duncan made a 3-pointer at the buzzer. It was the ultimate practical joke. It was ridiculous. And definitely the dagger that killed the Suns franchise, it really had this feeling of “whatever you do, the Spurs win”.

Martin, thanks for the link, I had never seen it and it’s quite incredible. My favorite clutch memory involves soccer so it’s a bit too off-topic for this blog :)

  • When that shot happened i was actually in Scottsdale Arizona… I started screaming big time and you could hear a death kinda silent form the apartment complex i was staying at… that same night.. i went to a Thrice/Circa Survive concert in Tempe… and while i wa son the line some guy with a Celtics jersey showed up and i said: “Hey i should have brought my Ginobili jersey then” the 4 dudes ahead of me turned around and we ended up talking about the game.. when i mentioned Duncan’s shot… they guys had completely forgotten about it and that was what made them feel better about that loss… the greatness of that shot… being in PHX after we won that game? priceless…

  • My favorite part of that is watching the actual real time clip from the game. You can literally hear everyone in the arena go “Oh no…this can’t be right.”

You can kind of see it in this photo. The best part of this picture though is the Suns fan directly above Tim’s hands. He must have been so devastated because you can see how confident he is that the fate of the game rested in a Tim Duncan 3-Pointer. His face seems to be saying, “WTF is this guy thinking?”

  • Okay, favorite Spurs moments:

    1. Sean Elliot three pointer (I was at that game, it was my birthday)

    2. Steve Kerr’s three point barrage against Dallas in 03 Conference finals

    3. Robert Horry’s three point barrage against Detroit in game 5 in 05 Finals

    4. The first half of game 2 against the Cavs in the 07 Finals (absolute basketball pefection)

    5. 97 NBA draft :)

    6. Avery Johnson’s shot to win in the 99 finals against the Knicks

    7. Manu’s amazing 40 something point game last year in Cleveland. (Any one know where I can get some video of that? Can’t find it on youtube.)

    8. Tim’s shot against Phoenix last year (the whole 4th quarter on was flabbergastingly tremendous). It does drop a bit since we didn’t win the championship that year.

    9. There was a game against Utah in the ‘99 season toward the end of the year when Tim exploded for 40 something points. It was then I realized just how good Tim would be. Would love to see that game again.

    10. 19-0 run to finish off the Net in ‘03. Tim’s line: 21 points, 20 boards, 10 assists, 8 blocks. I am still a bit upset he couldn’t muster 2 more blocks! :)

Worst moments? Nah, we know what they are….no need for a list.

  • Great comments, Dylan, I think the Suns fan looks more exasperated that up by three, no Sun is at the three point line.

I watched this play live at a wedding reception, because my good friend’s new ball and chain decided the opening Spurs playoff game is the best time for their wedding!!! He’s from Houston, but that selfish chick lived in SA at the time. She probably purposely changed their schedule to block out the whole game. Three friends and I were checking our phones throughout the ceremony we were standing in. It was a Hill Country wedding, but luckily the cooks and servers were savy enough to have a TV in their kitchen. My friends and I caught the last play of the regulation live, we celebrated so loudly most of the guests joined us to watch all of overtime. Needless to say, I have not been invited to their house. Totally worth it.

Graydon, I hope you get to watch more games with Spurs fans.

  • My worst playoff moment: v. Utah 199something at the Alamodome. There was literally NOTHING for the crowd to cheer-not a made shot, not a won turnover, an opponent miss-for the entire second quarter.

  • Worst moment? It isn’t .4 or the foul on Dirk, but the sweep by the Lakers in ‘01. I really really really thought we were much better than that, and then we simply got killed. Killed, I tell ya! I was so down after that for a long time. For about 2 more years, really.

  • My favorite moment of last year’s playoffs!
