Second Verse…
The Toros beat the Vipers again this evening, and it was more of the same. The final score was 120-106. In his two games since being waived (temporarily?) by the Spurs, Malik Hairston has scored 41 and, in tonight’s game, 42. Dwayne Jones followed last night’s near 30-30 with a modest 24 and 16, dialing in a buzzer to buzzer 48 minutes.
Without the services of DeMarcus Nelson or Marcus Williams, the Toros offense is now something of a permanent clear out for Malik Hairston. And Hairston is delivering. He gets to the rim with ease, and is able to finish with dunks and crafty layups. I wish that skill translated more smoothly to San Antonio. Whether or not Hairston makes the NBA now seems entirely dependent on his ability to catch and shoot, as we’ve said before. With a reliable jump shot and 3 point range, Hairston is easily on an NBA roster. If not, he’ll enjoy living abroad for a time. Should be a hard, busy summer for him.
The Toros finished the season at 31-18. The D-League’s playoff match ups will be announced live at 6:15 on Sunday night.
