The Toros Advance
The Toros defeated the Stampede this evening to advance to the 2nd round of the D-League playoffs. In a fitting tribute to their big league affiliate, they battled back from 16 down and sent the game into overtime on an end of regulation Marcus Williams 3 pointer. They eventually won 119-116.
Not surprisingly, Malik Hairston and Marcus Williams led the team with 34 and 33 points, respectively. Dwayne Jones threw in his typical 16 points and 17 boards. The Toros advance to play the #1 seeded Colorado 14ers next round.

I actually attended this game tonight. It was fun as heck, I’m not going to lie. 6 bucks gets you in to see a very intensely played game. One thing really stands out about the Toros: not one guy on that team can shoot the long jumper. You could see from the near maniacal drive mentality every single wing player had. It wasn’t until Malik and Williams realized that only 3’s were going to get us back in the game that they even began to shoot them. It really was odd to watch how reluctant everyone was. So neither guy is a shooter, but both are scorers, and scorers get hot from anywhere when they need to and both guys did. It was a very fun game to watch. I’ll be investigating some season tickets for next year, I promise.

That’s interesting that you say that, because I saw my first Dleague game here in Denver, and 3-point shooting was the one strength I noticed on the 14ers, the Toros next opponent. They were not great on getting back on D, but it was a blowout they were in control of. John John Lucas Jr was posted up quite a bit, but he can definately hit the 3.
