Larry King Grants a Sense of Proportion

There was a moment of levity yesterday as everyone hung out in the hotel lobby after practice. I was sitting next to a group which included Blake Griffin, who was attempting to make his way through the lobby one photo op at a time. A father had just brought his son to Griffin for a digital keepsake that didn’t go as one might expect. Just before his wife captured the image, Larry King came strolling through the lobby, and all the heads were on a swivel, including the dad, who completely blew his photo op gawking at the talk show host. Even the players seemed twitterpated by King, or, as one prospect put it, “is that old guy with the funny shoes the dude from tv?”  Danny Ainge made a beeline for King, hand out stretched with a big smile on the other end. Who knew?

For what it’s worth, James Carville came through a few minutes later. A few GMs introduced themselves, but the players, who are all of 19 or 20 years old, didn’t have the first clue.

  • I’m one of those 19 or 20 year olds, and although I would definitely recognize Larry King, I wouldn’t recognize Danny Ainge in person and wouldn’t be able to come up with James Carville’s name.

I’m loving these draft combine entries.
