Ginobili: “I’ll be 100 percent before training camp starts.”
Via the Express-News:
In his first interview since April 5, the day before a stress fracture in his right distal fibula put a premature end to the most tumultuous season of his career, Ginobili said Sunday that he expects to be fully recovered by the opening of training camp in October.
“For the past month or so, I haven’t felt any pain, even to the touch,” Ginobili said. “I don’t have any doubt I’ll be 100 percent before training camp starts.”
Between this and Oberto’s successful surgery, it’s been a positive day for the Spurs’ Argentine contingent. I must admit, reading about Ginobili’s progress makes me both excited and anxious: The mere mention of a full recovery causes my face to light up. But given how much rides on that ankle, some amount of dread is inescapable.

I’m sure you’ll be ready for an exciting new season in the NBA. Get well soon Manu!

I admire the optimism about Manu’s health, that takes guts! In order to avoid any potential heartbreak, I am going to stick with unbridled pessimism, thank you very much.

100% before training camp starts, wow, that means absolutely nothing. Ginobili doesn’t need training camp, heck, Ginobili doesn’t need the regular season. Show me an article that says Ginobili will be 100% for the playoffs and I’ll turn into a school girl. I think we should keep him in a glass case until the playoffs, while occasionally bringing him out for a game throughout the regular season to get role players (assuming SA picks up new/younger role players) accustomed to his style.
I’m glad Ginobili will be healthy, but the less he plays throuhout training camp and the regular season, the better. His and Tim’s minutes need to be severely cut this season to keep them fresh.

any thoughts on this recent truehoop post?

sounds like the whole concept is not completely off limits within the organization, from what he said.

The injury could be a blessing in disguise. Ginobili has played too much basketball over the last 5 years between deep playoff runs and the international competitions. Manu needed exactly what he got basically a year off to just rest and heal.
When he comes back next season he will be hearing all the doubters and playing for a new contract. A motivated Manu will be unstoppable.

I am excited too…but wait, uh o…something is telling me he wants to represent Argentina is a street ball competition in Brazil this summer…I hate to say it but he will never be the same. I understand why he wanted to play for his country in the Olympics but lets get real, thats where all this started getting out of hand and its made me salty towards Manu. The Spurs are paying this guy alot of money and I think him playing in the Olympics is where all this began. Thanks for everything Manu..but the past is the past.
