Some Thoughts on the Jefferson Trade

Ed. Note: I apologize for my recent absence. I began graduate school on Monday so, needless to say, my life has been a bit hectic the last few days. Once I get a better sense of my schedule, I’ll be back in full force. But I couldn’t let yesterday’s events pass without offering some comment.
As [...]

Buford Gets a Mandate

R.C. Buford gave an incredibly straight forward interview this evening. The video is at Spurs.com. Here are some bullets that I took away:

The Spurs are sad to see their veteran’s go, Bruce Bowen especially.
Richard Jefferson is the beginning of the offseason. Buford gives a clear indication that the Spurs are willing to pay tax and [...]

Richard Jefferson to San Antonio

Old flames die hard. In February several news outlets reported that the Spurs were in talks with the Nets and Bucks to trade for either Richard Jefferson or Vince Carter. Apparently, those talks never died.
Chad Ford is reporting that the Spurs and Bucks have agreed to a deal that would send Fabricio Oberto, [...]

Draft Prospect: Jonas Jerebko

Most of you have probably heard the name Jonas Jerebko by now. He’s moving up the draft board, and there is no doubt the Spurs have a strong opinion about his game. Jerebko played last season with Angelico Biella, where he was a teammate of James Gist. The Spurs, one would assume, have scouted the [...]

Tiago Splitter, Trade Asset

The Draft is almost upon us. There have been several reports that the Spurs are looking to trade into the first round, with one rumor having them interested in Washington’s 5th pick. But, honestly, we heard similar things last year. The cold reality of limited assets and the tough business of locating agreeable trade partners [...]

Draft Prospect: Victor Claver

In early May I promised a series of posts on draft prospects who seemed a good fit for San Antonio. I earmarked 8 players for future posts, 4 of which are now complete. Follow the links to read about Omri Casspi (and here and here), Vladimir Dasic (withdrew), Sergio Llull, and Danny Green (and here). [...]

Bouroussis Stays with Olympiacos

According to a Greek report, Yiannis Bouroussis is set to resign with Olympiacos.
The Spurs’ holes at center and wing remain, but at least Bouroussis’ decision came in advance of the draft and free agent period. That should help the Spurs focus more sharply on other options.
Let the hunt continue.

Trading Tony Parker

In recent weeks we’ve discussed the numerous trade opportunities that are available to the Spurs. During these discussions certain commenters have repeatedly floated an idea that I have yet to address formally: The idea of trading Tony Parker. Once or twice I have mentioned that I think trading Tony Parker is a bad idea, and [...]

Austin Nichols: Breaking In

As promised, we’re back with another look at the summer of French League MVP Austin Nichols. Nichols, who has been a busy little bee, just completed a Spurs mini camp. His hope is to stick with the team for summer league and training camp, but he’s on more than one radar. Teams are interested in [...]

An Interview with James Gist

The Spurs do things differently. We all know this is true, but it helps to stop and check the score once in awhile. One thing that sets the Spurs apart from other teams is there use of the Austin Toros and international leagues as part of their player development. “Yes, I know,” you say. “Why [...]

Late Night Bullets

I’ll update this in the coming hours, but here’s a late night round up of information from the last week or so. Some of this may be old hat to you, but judging by our comments these tidbits haven’t worked their way into all four corners just yet.

Yiannis Bouroussis’ contract negotiations with Olympiacos have hit [...]
