Gregg Popovich is Underpaid

Kelly Dwyer recently provided us with a list of the decade’s best contracts. Manu Ginobili made the list, but Tim Duncan and Tony Parker just missed the cut. Another notable omission: Gregg Popovich. According to a July, 2008 report, Pop makes somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 million a year. That’s a good bargain for [...]

Derrick Rose and the Spurs

When news of Derrick Rose’s sham SAT scores hit, I ho-hummed my way through the headlines without much thought. No need to get all huffy-I really couldn’t care less.

Marcus Haislip Highlight Reel

Let’s hope Tony Parker learns to throw an alley-oop, and that Coach Popovich doesn’t bench him for it. HT: ceperez of SpursTalk.

Should the Spurs Buy a Ticket to the Stephen Jackson Sweepstakes?

As many of you may already know, Stephen Jackson has stated publicly that he would like to be traded by the Golden State Warriors. He mentioned the Texas Three-Step, Cleveland, and New York as potential landing spots. This all begs the question: should the Spurs attempt to trade for Stephen Jackson?

France Takes Care of Business, Destroys Belgium

France needed a 5 point victory to advance past Belgium into Eurobasket proper. They got that, and tacked on an additional 33 for good measure, winning this morning’s contest in a 92-54 rout. I’m happy for Tony Parker, Ian Mahinmi and Nando De Colo on a personal level, and I think this is good news [...]

Brazil vs. Panama, 4 pm EST

FIBA’s late summer tournaments are great fun. That fun continues today as the undefeated Brazilian team takes on Panama. For updates on Brazil’s play, The Painted Area recapped their games against Argentina and Dominican Republic. Pounding the Rock has a helpful write-up on Tiago Splitter’s first three games here. And I offered a few thoughts [...]

Globetrotting with the Spurs

If you’re jonesing for Spurs basketball, it’s not such a bad time of year. Yesterday’s slate featured Tiago Splitter, Tony Parker, Ian Mahinmi and Nando De Colo.

Spurs News, For Real

Don’t get too excited, but it seems like the offseason is drawing to a close. How do I know? There is real live news available to bullet, and I couldn’t be happier. Without further ado:

Should the Spurs Make Another Move Before Camp?

Some version of that question keeps rearing its head in our comments section. It’s one those counter-intuitive things. You’d think Spurs fans would be satisfied after an offseason that saw a massive roster overhaul. But when post trade euphoria sets in, the market suddenly expands to all of our favorite players (that we imagine are [...]

My 2nd Favorite Team

My good friend Kevin Arnovitz asked me and several other TrueHoop Network writers to pen a brief ode to our second favorite team. In many respects, I do not have a second favorite team: My love for the Spurs runs deep. But, I will admit, when Kevin asked, one team did come readily to mind: [...]

Ordering the Acronyms: Are FIBA and FIFA Useful Analogues?

What hath Barca to do with basketball? Based on our recent posts, much, and in every way. On Monday I took a stab at the vexed question of whether NBA owners should restrict their players from international competition. My post was inspired by Kevin Arnovitz and it, in turn, inspired a number of insightful comments [...]

Beautiful Games

Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good soccer. I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: “A pretty move, for the love of God.” -Eduardo Galeano, Soccer in Sun and Shadow This past weekend the English Premier League [...]

Ian Mahinmi to Stay with Les Bleus

Ian Mahinmi scored 12 points in 12 minutes and provided the French National Team with solid defense in their loss against Finland. His performance impressed Coach Vincent Collet, who will keep Ian Mahinmi instead of Johan Petro. This is newsworthy on a few fronts.

Leaner, Quicker, Stronger

Mike Monroe reports that Roger Mason Jr. dropped his body fat percentage this summer in an effort to become “more active.” (I know, I’m late to the Monroe article.) Johnny Ludden tells us that Tim Duncan is down to 240. The arrival of skinny Timmy and a slim Mase raises my curiosity, but in a [...]

Finland Shocks France 77-73, Petteri Koponen Outplays Tony Parker

Kimmo Sinisalo is a Finnish citizen who, not surprisingly, lives and works in Helsinki. He’s been around basketball for 30 years. He’s a self-described basketball lifer who has coached, played, kept stats and referred more games at the amateur level than he can remember. He’s also a 48MoH reader. Kimmo had the good fortune of [...]
