inspirational speech from one of the most respected spurs players ever!thanks admiral for your contributions to the franchise and to the city of san antonio! most of all for the model human being of what you are and making me so proud of being a spurs fan—- for life!!
The best example of what a Pro Athlete is supposed to be like. A Star on and off the court. Simply the best. Thank you Mr. Robinson for making me proud to be a Spurs Fan for life…
Incredible speech. I can only wonder what it would have been like it he wasn’t told to cut it short. What was that all about? Like people have somewhere else to be?
In some of the other articles, there’s been a dominant tendency to contrast Jordan and Robinson for some reason, as if to tear down Jordan will somehow raise Robinson higher.
After listening to this speech, isn’t it obvious: Robinson doesn’t need any help. Furthermore, can you imagine what Robinson would say to everyone tearing down someone else to make him look better.
Also, as a sidenote to the speech, and this is completely tangential, I was struck at the comraderie between Avery and Pop in the stands.
Without any real proof, I sort of felt that Avery was being groomed to be Pop’s replacement, and the retiring of his jersey could be seen as the first step of that process to brining him back into the family.
Seeing Avery in the stands as part of the Spurs family made me convinced more than ever that he’ll have some future with Spurs once again down the road. Anyway, just something more to talk about until the season starts. Ha.

It’s a proud moment to see one of the people you admire greatly growing up reach the pinnacle of their profession.
The best part is knowing that though he appreciates the honor, it wouldn’t matter to him either way. It doesn’t come close to defining him.

Jones,
You’re not the only one who wonders about that…
Avery is a Spur, and the Spurs could do a lot worse.

I know this is sorta late, but it appears the only person David did not thank was Pop? Anyone else catch that?
