48MoH at Both Teams Played Hard
Recently, my good friend Jared Wade, of Eight Points, Nine Seconds and Both Teams Played Hard, hit me up with a free ticket to the Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II release show in NYC. In return, he asked me to pen a few words on the Spurs logo, which he considers one of the top ten logos in the league.
Rather than repay him with any actual effort, I strung together a few failed attempts at comedy, some completely meaningless pseudo-intellectual babble, and a one-line zinger I had been saving for just the right time.
In other words, not only will I be receiving no more free tickets to hip hop shows, but I can’t imagine I’ll be getting too many more guest post invites from Jared either. That being said, you should give it a read.
P.S. At the end of the post, Jared mentions the absolutely terrific (horrific?), peppered jerseys that were worn at the Alamadome All-Star game back in the mid-90s. I don’t have much to add aside from, a) I genuinely do miss the fiesta-colors era and, b) I was at that All-Star game, and it was awesome.

Our jerseys are awesome…slickest looking team in the NBA. Black/Silver is just intimidating. Also, how was the show? Ghostface still got it?

Ghostface actually didn’t show, which is surprising considering the fact that every Raekwon “solo” project pretty much gives equal prominence to Ghost. But personally, it didn’t matter. I’m such a huge devotee of the Wu, every time I see any of them I can’t help but love it.
I did see Ghost and Raekwon at Pitchfork last summer, and they put on a good show.

I take it the “one line zinger” points to the color faerie? I hate to use the term, but I did lol…
good stuff.

Ha. The early 90s sure were caught up with festive colors. The downtown library perhaps could be seen as part of this trend.
I always assumed the graphic designer who came up with the Spurs neon color scheme also did work for Taco Cabana. On second thought, Ninja did do some commercials for them…

The fiesta colors came into being during Red McCombs ownership of the Spurs. Thank god Peter Holt restored the silver and black!
