San Antonio Spurs 85, Chicago Bulls 92: the Late Edition

Although a disappointment, I’m hesitant to read too much into the Spurs Thursday night loss to the Bulls. The Spurs may have gotten younger this offseason but, as I said during the “early edition” of my recap, the Spurs are going to struggle on the second night of back-to-backs when on the road against high [...]

George Hill Rising

When the Spurs traded for Richard Jefferson, Gregg Popovich began painting RJ in terms of the team’s new primary wing defender. The replacement Bowen. In time, Jefferson should prove a fine defender for the Spurs, but here is a takeaway from last night’s loss to the Bulls: George Hill is San Antonio’s most talented perimeter [...]

San Antonio Spurs 85, Chicago Bulls 92: The Early Edition

It’s already far too late and I am far too tired to write a full blown recap. Tomorrow afternoon you should expect not only analysis but, believe it or not, original reporting, as both Tim and I attended tonight’s loss not as fans but as members of the press. But before I hit the hay [...]

Spurs Will Not Pick Up Option on Ian Mahinmi

Ian Mahinmi’s career continues down a challenging path. French language sources are reporting that the Spurs will not exercise their option on Mahinmi. I spoke with Bouna Ndaiye, Ian Mahinmi’s agent, and confirmed the French language reports. What does this mean for Ian Mahinmi and the Spurs moving forward?

Live Chat, Spurs at Bulls

Graydon and I will attempt a live chat from the game this evening. ESPN.com is hosting us, and a few friends, as part of their new Daily Dime Live. It kicks off at 8 EST.

Gregg Popovich, the Spurs, and Tom Thibodeau

Last night’s game was not all lolly pops and fairy dust for the Spurs. After the game, Popovich tipped his hat to an obvious flaw in the team’s win over the Hornets. Team defense was lousy for most of the night. “Our defense in the first half was good and in the second half it [...]

New Orleans Hornets 96, San Antonio Spurs 113

The Spurs tipped off their 2009-10 campaign in impressive fashion, defeating the New Orleans Hornets 113-96 in the season opener at home this evening. It’s hard to imagine an opening game that inspires more confidence moving forward. I think the overwhelming truth that must be taken from tonight’s game is how deep this squad is. [...]

Spurs Excercise Option on Hill

When Gregg Popovich referred to George Hill as his favorite player, I guess he meant it. The Spurs have exercised their 2010-11 option for Hill. Given that his performances in the 4th and 5th games of the series were one of the few bright spots of last season’s opening round, and he played well in [...]

If you haven’t heard…

… there’s a game tonight. Which means two things: Come back at 7 Central for a liveblog co-hosted with Hornets 24/7. Pre-game notes. So… The Hornets most substantial offseason move was trading Tyson Chandler for Emeka Okafor. I think there are arguments to be made either way as to whether the move is a step [...]

NBA Predictions: All Spurs Edition

Last week ESPN.com asked their national writers to predict the 2009-10 player award winners. Manu Ginobili and Gregg Popovich’s names were suggested in the 6th Man and Coach of the Year categories, but the list caused me to think about the entire Spurs roster. The ESPN writers did a good job of identifying the major [...]

TrueHoop Network 2009-2010 Preview: The Rest of the Network

There are two main reasons Tim and I enjoy being associated with the TrueHoop Network: the thoughtful and articulate readership we’ve gained since joining, and the insight of our wonderful colleagues. That’s why we wanted to direct your attention to the other previews posted around the Network today. In particular I’d like to thank Henry [...]

Spurs Waive Williams

The Spurs have waived Marcus Williams. The roster now stands at 15 and I expect it to stay that way. Between Hairston’s solid summer league and preseason performances, and the money both Haislip and Bogans are guaranteed, I don’t believe we will see any other cuts. Williams has developed nicely, and personally I would have [...]

Spurs Waive Jerrells

The Spurs have waived Curtis Jerrells. The roster now stands at 16. The final roster spot has come down to a contest between Malik Hairston and Marcus Williams and, by the looks of things, Hairston is the clear favorite. It’s always possible that the Spurs could cut someone with guaranteed money, but that seems unlikely.
