I think it is awesome that Tim Duncan won the post-scrimage 3-point contest. Dick Jefferson seemed like he was everywhere during that game, too.
Can’t wait for our first preseason game on Tuesday! GO SPURS!

Mcdyess had a block on Tim that was called a foul, drawing boos from the fans. He got a bigger block later in the game, hopefully a sign of things to come. Blair is a workhorse, Mason hit a lot of shots as did RJ.

I was there today for the rookie season-ticket holder session before the practice (with special guest RC Buford), and then was sitting front row, right behind the black Spurs team’s bench. A couple of things from my mental notes:
1) RC pointed out Marcus Williams and Malik Hairston as players they were excited about coming over from the Toros. He specifically mentioned Hairston as being the most improved player they’d ever seen coming from the D-League.
2) Blair looked good on both defense and offense. He crouches so low when he’s on offense, that he’s almost doubled over, but the low center of gravity let him do some good spin moves, and he finished well around the rim, even going against McDyess or Ratliff.
3) Watching Mahinmi and Blair fight over rebounds made me a bit giddy. This may have been just a scrimmage, but those guys were going after it. Hard.
4) Mahinmi spent a lot of time asking questions to Ratliff on the bench. Hopefully he gets some great pointers on improving his shot-blocking.
5) Quinn Snyder was there as well, further emphasizing the relationship with the Toros. In his speech Buford talked about how happy they were with the results they’d had in infusing the Spurs culture at the Toros level, and that they considered the Toros to be a key competitive advantage.
6) Blair does have a lot to learn on defense. He bit on a shot fake by Bonner (I mean, really, Bonner’s not going hard to the hole, you know?), and fouled him on a triple. Matt drained it, and the free throw for a four-pointer. Ouch. On the plus side, Bonner seemed to have a really good shooting game.
7) Manu looks good. Real good.
