A Few Pregame Thoughts
The elation we all feel when we watch Tim, Tony and Manu play even semi-competitive games such as tonight’s preseason opener against the Rockets is justified, but for genuine intrigue direct your eyes towards the other end of the bench. For Malik Hairston, Curtis Jerrells, Ian Mahinmi, Marcus Williams, and Dwayne Jones, the next couple of weeks could very well define their careers. For Marcus Haislip and Keith Bogans, whose money may be guaranteed but whose roster spots are not, the preseason offers an opportunity to emerge from basketball purgatory.
As the game will only be available on Fox Sports Houston, I imagine more than a few 48MoH readers won’t be able to catch it. If you do happen to see the game, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section.
And, as always, Go Spurs.

Guys,
Where can I watch the pre-season games? I live in Dallas. Does the NBA league pass cover these games? If it does, i will buy the pass right away.
Thanks for the prompt response.

To the best of my knowledge League Pass isn’t available til the regular season (or at least not this early in the preseason), and the game is only being shown on Fox Sports Houston. I don’t believe any other TV stations will have it available. If it ends up on Fox Sports Southwest, somebody let the rest of the gang know.
As far as catching the game in Dallas is concerned, I’m not sure what to tell ya.

I’m in Houston
Just turned it on, butBlair has a double-double in the 3rd quarter!
October 6th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
Wow I just checked the stats 3:11 to go in the 3rd quarter and Blair has 12 pts 15 rebounds.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
So much for buying the huge Direct TV package. Does anyone know why games are blacked out? You would think that letting as many people see it as possible would help the brand and hence increase revenue.

yeah parker, duncan, mcdyesss, ratliff , and many others aren’t even playing this game and we are still pretty close. Houston sucks man

Spurs look completely different with Blair in there vs. when he’s not. When he’s in, they’re 1000% more active; without him, they’re just kind of running up and down the court.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
I can’t tell if Mahinmi is, in fact, alive.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Spurs are going to lose this one. The big stories so far (since I’ve turned it on) are how good Blair and Hairston are playing. Blair has obviously been incredible, and Hairston is simply playing like he belongs on an NBA squad. All of our other role players… hit or miss.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
After listening to the commentary, I really doubt that Spurs will pick up the team option on Mahinmi for next season. That was a bad bad game for him.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
I didn’t get to watch the game but…
Pre-Season or not, anyone who can be on the court with NBA players and pull down almost a rebound EVERY minute (19 in 22 mins) is doing something right…Damn I’m excited.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
A very poor game for Ian. I’m not too fussed about the loss.
I’m happy Ginobili played, Bonner did well statistically but Blair was a beast. 19 rebound? Thats great. In 22 minutes? That’s amazing.
Considering the veterans from that Rockets system played more minutes against our 2nd unit I’m happy with the scoreline.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see the game, but I did see the box score. 19 rebounds (8 offensive) in 22 minutes for Blair. I don’t care if this is the pre-season against an undermanned, undersized front line, that is absolutely sick. We already knew it, but this is just further confirmation that this guy is an absolute bear on the boards. His per minute rebounding statistics are going to be off the charts.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Don’t be so hard on Ian. I was at the game and thought he looked decent. He just needs to control his body on defense but he also didn’t get much leeway from the refs. He looked better as a help defender than one-on-one in the post.
As for Blair… WOW!
October 6th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
and with the 37th pick, the San Antonio Spurs select…..
DEJUAN BLAIR!
October 6th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
“Why do you play Dejuan Blair more than any rookie since Tim Duncan?”
Pop: “Because hes Dejuan Blair”
October 6th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Blair is the man, the One! We’re the luckiest team on the draft – from DRob to TD to TP to Manu and now De-Juan, the ONE!
He’s the real deal and he’s gonna rip that ball off the boards! RAWR!!
October 7th, 2009 at 12:17 am
Wow!!! Blair is a promising player!!!

Before anyone in Texas purchases league pass, check out the blackout policy. Last year it was within a 300 mile radius of SA. It’ll probably be the same this year.
