Berger: Spurs Intrigued by Ty Thomas
Two Western Conference teams intrigued by Thomas are the Nuggets, patiently seeking a big man to contend with the Lakers, and the Spurs, who were characterized by two rival executives as desperate to acquire an athletic big man. “They feel like they have to do something, like they’re behind the eight ball a little bit,” one of the execs said. The Spurs have a full complement of expiring contracts that would intrigue the Bulls, who want to avoid losing a significant player with no compensation (see Ben Gordon) for the second straight summer. The Spurs, who dipped their toe across the luxury tax line this season, will have to decide before the end of their annual circus road trip – which continued Monday night against the Lakers – what they’re willing to give up to see that investment pay off.
Link.
FWIW: Mason Jr, Finley, Bonner and Mahinmi would work for John Salmons and Tyrus Thomas. Talk amongst yourselves.

Yes please and very fast. Salmons is a solid offensive guy and isn’t a liability on defense. Thomas would be a great big man to help with interior D and isn’t horrible on offense.
The only downside I see of a trade like this is that Mason, Bonner and Finley are all shooters and we’d only be getting back one shooter in return.
Still I’d do this deal in a heartbeat!
February 9th, 2010 at 8:21 am
i agree, salmons and thomas would most definitely work in my book.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:21 am
We stink of desperation..
Sad days.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:28 am
Interesting that he refers to the rodeo rode trip as the circus road trip. I think circus road trip may be a more accurate description of what we’ve seen thus far.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:31 am
forget about a desperation trade, how about a desparation lineup shuffle…are we ready to bring jefferson off the bench and start ginobili? i.e., start parker, hill, ginobili, mcdyess, duncan…and let jefferson, blair, mason and bonner run with the second team…and think hard about brining hairston into the mix. now.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:34 am

The bulls were on the Circus Trip, Spurs on Rodeo Trip
February 9th, 2010 at 8:35 am
All the trade rumors do stink of desperation but these are rapidly becoming desperate times. We’ve played two teams with winning records but missing big stars and they’ve managed to beat us just by having a winning attitude and effort as a team. I like this move because it makes us more athletic up front and could take Jefferson off the floor.
What are we giving up? A guy in a shooting slump, a guy way past his prime, a big man who can’t play inside or rebound, and a guy who’s ceiling is Ty Thomas today.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:36 am
Does anyone else think that we’re pretty set on big guys already? I think the problem is that the wings not named Parker or Ginobili shoot 4-20 for 14 points.
I’m not even sure if Thomas would get enough playing time in the rotation to make it worth it.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:38 am
I agree that we should make this trade and stop this circus from making the spurs look like clowns so go ahead and make it happen!
February 9th, 2010 at 8:45 am
Everyone agrees that the Spurs need to do something. Thomas has a lot of potential, and we already know the Spurs like Salmons because they drafted the guy, but I don’t know if Tyrus is the answer. He sounds like a bit of a head case to me:

Well lets look at this for a minute:
6′10-225 lbs. Super Athletic. 23 years old. Shot Blocker.
Who am I describing?
Sounds like Tyrus Thomas.
It is Ian Mahinmi…
We already have a Tryus Thomas, only he doesn’t get any minutes. But hey… nothing can be worse that what we are currently doing, right?
February 9th, 2010 at 8:50 am
The Spurs desperately need an athletic big man? Isn’t that what Haislip was but never got to show what he could do on the court in games? Isn’t that what Ian is supposed to be?
February 9th, 2010 at 8:52 am
I believe it was bad coaching that lost us the game last night. We went small for almost a total of 20 mintues. Most of those 20 minutes had Blair as our center and Jefferson/Finley at power forwar. I case you have never watched a basketball game; that doesnt work against a team like the Nets, much less the defending champion Lakers. Wake up POP!
Many teams go small, and there is a time for it; I understand. Have we ever though about playing BIG? Dejuan at the 3? Especially against Ron Artest? They are the exact same build, and i would bet that Blair has better handles and footwork.
In a game like last night; when we are getting eaten alive by big men, we go small, or have Bonner and Duncan together. (Kudos to Bonner, He was at least in his man’s face most of the time.)
I like Matt Bonner. He out-hustles everyone on the team. is he good enough to play on this team? No. It is not his fault that he gets Ian’s minutes. If Mahinmi would play with the assertion of Bonner, we would all have our Twin Towers that we all want.
Enough ranting… bottom line –
Jefferson – stop shooting outside when you are ice cold.
Blair – Just because you get the rebound doesn’t mean you have to put it back.
Pop – Play length against length. Theo avg. almost 3 blocks per game his entire career… He knows what to do, give him Bonner’s minutes Damnit!
February 9th, 2010 at 8:58 am
I’m against trading our expirings and taking back Salmons’ 2-year deal for Tyrus Thomas. I don’t think Thomas is any good. Also, unfortunately, I don’t really see how any of our players offered in the linked trade can be considered compensation for the Bulls… unless you consider getting to dump Salmons as compensation. If we could get rid of Jefferson somehow for expiring deals, I’m OK with that.
February 9th, 2010 at 8:58 am
I think T thomas will be a good fit. We can get t. Thomas/ B Haywood+ S Battier for Bogans+ Finley+ Bonner+ Mason and Ian or theo. We get an athletic big and a lock down defender that can shoot the three. we also shorten the rotation. we can feel the empty slots with D leaguers (no that they will play much either way…)
Here are 2 trades make sense: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yfyn7ga
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygtdg6o
February 9th, 2010 at 9:01 am
I guess that’s the worst part of the whole situation, NOBODY is going to take Jefferson in a trade.
We are stuck with him.
February 9th, 2010 at 9:14 am
…I suggested the Salmons-Thomas trade on Feb. 5 in the Portland game summary (with Trade Machine link)….
February 9th, 2010 at 9:28 am
VP-
Excuse the understatement. I’d be thrilled if we could trade RJ for expirings, and I agree it’s probably not possible. At least it’s only a 2-year deal, maybe next year.
February 9th, 2010 at 9:30 am
I asked a while back about this but got no answer.
Can’t basketball players be fired? I mean, the guy is making 14 million and not doing his job.
I would get fired for not doing my job and also making less than 1% of his salary.
I don’t understand a trade for Thomas, we have Ian and not playing at all. I’m from Chicago, so I would not mind having Tyrus and Salmons at SA.
I actually met Tyrus in Maui this past summer. He’s a pretty cool dude…
February 9th, 2010 at 9:35 am
I have to wonder also if the Spurs “benched” players such as RMJ, Bonner, etc are angry at the fact that the Spurs are giving playing time and more money to RJ who obviously sucks and they get nothing. RJ played well for us last season and we have shown him no love this entire season. How can we expect the guy to have a shooting touch when he barely shoots…
February 9th, 2010 at 9:37 am
@MCS-Those trades made no sense at all. Always fun to see fans think up some trade that only helps their team. Why would the Rockets help out the Spurs? The Rockets could do A LOT better for Battier than four terrible players.
February 9th, 2010 at 9:42 am
Unfortunately, that trade would put us much further into luxury tax territory. Roger, Bonner, Finley and Mahinmi’s contracts are worth $10,526,170 and Thomas and Salmon’s contracts are worth $11,172,749 which means we would be taking on an additional $646,579 in salary plus $646,579 in luxury tax payments.
The move also puts our roster at 12 people (even if Hairston was back on the inactive list) which means we are required by the league to sign a 13th player. That would cost us the amount of his salary X 2 for more luxury tax payments. I doubt Peter Holt does this for a team that might not even get three playoff home games this year.
We rolled the dice, it didn’t work. But I really doubt we blow things up and cost ourselves more money. We will probably just have to ride this season out and then see what the offseason and draft can do for us. It is disappointing but we can’t expect anything more from Holt. He has already paid too much money for this underacheiver.
February 9th, 2010 at 9:43 am
A problem not seen in the Jefferson trade is we gave up Oberto and Kurt Thomas. Two big players that we haven’t replaced. McDyess and Blair aren’t big enough to cover the space either of those two did, and Ratliff doesn’t play. Bring this guy in and go for broke, or at least score 120 a night.
As stated in the ESPN recap of the Lakers game, Spurs have lost 4 straight in LA (on the Lakers side of Staples, not the Clippers). The Spurs will need at least one win in Staples to advance in the playoffs, if we make it there.
February 9th, 2010 at 10:03 am
@JT,
Basketball players can’t simply be fired because they are unionized. There is a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Player’s Union and the NBA team owners. Everybody agreed to rules by which everybody will play, such as contract lengths, maximum values for contracts, salary caps, amongst other things.
You would get fired for not doing your job because you aren’t part of a union that has agreed to a set of rules that everybody will follow. You are a single entity in that respect.
The only way a player can be “fired” is if they are bought out. Being bought out is an agreement between team and player that says that the player will leave the team for an agreed upon amount of money, usually most of the money that player is owed, so that they can seek employment by another team. But that is usually only beneficial to the team if the player is an absolute cancer (which RJ is not), because that player’s contract still counts toward the salary cap.
Hopefully I got most of that right. I’m sure somebody could correct me on the details if I am incorrect.
February 9th, 2010 at 10:09 am
@idahospur – Kurt Thomas did not have the quickness to guard players in space and his minutes had to be limited due to his age. Dyce had an excellent rebounding game last night against a very big lineup. I don’t recall him getting many opportunities to score.
I’d make the trade just for the shakeup factor. I don’t know if it will work but as-is is not good enough. At least Salmons can make an open shot and take some scoring pressure off the big-3.
February 9th, 2010 at 10:11 am
Dallas bought Finley out under some kind of exception, so it didn’t count against their cap. I think that exception was a one-time thing, though.
I think this proposed trade is idiotic. Pop says the Spurs lost too much corporate knowledge, so we trade away more corporate knowledge for an inconsistent producer like Salmons and a head case like Tyrus Thomas? If the Spurs were that desperate for “an athletic big” we’d see Mahinmi, Ratliff and Hasilip on the court.
It takes more to succeed in the Spurs’ system than dunks and blocked shots.
February 9th, 2010 at 10:15 am
Do it. And bring in a 3rd string PG for the minimum.
February 9th, 2010 at 10:55 am
I’m not a fan of this trade. I mean bringing in Thomas does nothing for us, sure he would bring better defense that Bonner but on offense he insists on taking an inconsistent jump shot game after game, and John Salmons shots the three ball about as well as Mason Jr. We give up way too many players only to still be taking on bigger contracts than we’re sending out. The best thing that we can possibly do at this point is maybe trade for some draft picks and reload this summer with a great draft pick since we have our number 1 this season, and compete in free agency.
Pop even said it himself, we’re not one player away from fixing this teams problems, and if we bring in new players its only going to cause more team chemistry setbacks.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:19 am
Since when is Ratliff an “athletic big”?!?!?!?!
February 9th, 2010 at 11:22 am
I agree with those who think this trade isn’t so hot. Ty Thomas seems to be one of those players who ALWAYS has potential, but never realizes it. If we are going to make this trade, then why not make the trade for Maggette and Randolph? There isn’t that much difference in salaries for either option. Mind you, I’m not really for either trade, but Maggette is miles ahead of Salmons and Randolph might actually live up to his hype.
On a positive note, we have expiring contracts that can be moved this year and we’ll have Jefferson’s $15million expiring contract next year. Jefferson could be the 2011 version of the Tracy McGrady contract. Some team next year will be desperate to shed salary. Although this year seems to be a lost cause, the Spurs do have Tony playing well and two young studs shoring up the future in Hill and Blair. We should make a trade, but one that helps the team long term, instead of a last ditch effort to win this year.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:32 am
Comparing Ian to Thomas is ridiculous. Thomas is a proven commodity in the NBA. Mahinmi is athletic and young, sure, but he’s proven that unless he’s playing the Nets he’s not good enough to get playing time.
Salmons would really make this deal work for me. You get a better scorer than Mason and Finley and he’s a pretty decent defender as well.
I understand the sentiment that you don’t want to bring in new guys that won’t know the system, but at what point do you realize that it’s not going to work with the current roster? The goal is to win now, if you can’t win now with this team, make a change.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:33 am
I think Anthony Randolph is out for the season, injured.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:39 am
You know we talk about trades and players and coaching schems. But the fact of the matter is the Spurs are getting out played. I do not think its a lack of talent, it is something that is happening in the locker room and the practice court. There is something not translating from practice to the game. Is there a lack of leadership? I dont know because I am just an fan who can only watch a game and make uncalculated observations. Maybe the local media can start asking tough questions post game to get answers. I don’t think we deserve all the answers but we should get something that lets us know what is going on. We see talent but we do not see what is going on behind the scenes. I don’t know what kind of trade that would make us fans happy but I know if the Spurs start winning like we expect we will be happy.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:47 am
Why would we do this? It really makes no sense to me.
We dont play Ian, so we really dont know what we have. Im all for getting rid of Bonner and Finley, but they get more minutes than Blair which is strange in itself.
Back to the topic. If we were to make this trade. Pop would use the “new guys” excuse and not play either Salmons or Thomas; much like he did Hill and Gooden last year, even when they contributed more than the Spurs listed as trade bait. So why would we do this?
Frankly, Im tired of seeing Pop look like an idiot when hes not loaded. What we need is a new coach who develops talent, or POP needs to figure out that his system (laughagble) only works when you have an EXTREMELY dominant big on both ends of the floor.
Summation: Everyone but Howard/Bosh are bad pieces to our puzzle in POPS “system”
February 9th, 2010 at 11:52 am
Trade is not a solution to improve this team…..
February 9th, 2010 at 12:00 pm
@Mike –
Theo averages 2.5 blocks a game over his entire career of 14 years – he can defend the paint and jump out of the gym!
February 9th, 2010 at 12:01 pm
and only in 25 minutes…
February 9th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
I wasn’t aware Theo Ratliff could still jump.
February 9th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
I am not saying that Theo is our savior at the 4/5, but what I am saying is that he is better than what we are currently recieving defensively beside Timmy.
February 9th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
No trade,
IMO the best thing the spurs can do is ride out this season and see what the off season brings. Hopefully splitter can finally join our team and help out timmy.
We should be talking about trades this time next year because we will have Jefferson’s expiring contract. Unfortunately there is no team that will take his contract this year. He has been a complete dissapoint and a rare mistake by RC and Pop by signing him this past off season.
February 9th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
I remember an interview in which Charles Barkeley was asked which defender gave him the hardest time. His immediate response was some no-name guy who no one had ever heard of. The point is that you can’t know which guy is going to perform well against others until you try them. That’s what’s so disappointing about Pop’s refusal to TRY different bigs against guys who we know we are likely to face in the playoffs. Gasol, Bynum, Aldridge, Boozer, Amare, Dirk, etc. We haven’t even tried Ratliff, Mahinmi, Haislip. Those opponents have pretty much eaten up Timmy, Dyce, Blair, (do I even have to mention Bonner?). But the SA press corps is so intimidated by Pop that no one questions his decisions. Glad that most folks on these blogs are not so self-restricted.
February 9th, 2010 at 2:23 pm
I have to completely agree with that last statement. agutierrez, thank you for having the guts to call out the coaching this year.
I don’t believe a trade is the answer since we can’t land one player that is going to drastically alter the trajectory of this season, if that player even exists. I believe we already have the talent we need, the problem is that we aren’t using it correctly.
Until Pop starts using the players at his disposal and giving them defined roles and consistent minutes/rotation, we can swap the parts all we like but will never assemble anything greater than the sum of said parts.
February 9th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Just an FYI to a couple posters: Haislip is no longer on the Spurs roster. He was waived and is playing in Greece.
February 9th, 2010 at 2:47 pm
Alright slow down there with all your offers Spurs fans. I hope to god that Bulls don’t just give Ty away for nothing. Ty and Salmons for Ginobili sounds more like a fair trade for me. Works well for both teams. I think Spurs coach would do well for Ty Thomas. This guys potential is off the roof and I think Salmon would give the Spurs bench a younger and faster guard/small forward. Tyrus would give them the help in defense and rebounding. Ginobili would give the Bulls that veteran shooting guard they need to stay on the playoff hunt this year and maybe keep him next year if things works out. Most importantly, it works in the trade machine
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine
February 9th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
Is Pop playing possium? Seriously, why would pop not play Ian, Marcus when he was in SA, or Theo? Does he know something we don’t? Is he just saving Theo/Ian for the playoffs? Pop always talks about how the regular season means nothing and if so is he doing this on purpose?
Why aren’t we running more w/ RJ? Well, our defense stinks right now and to run, we need stops. I’m not convince a trade will or should happen to help the Spurs this season. I wonder who will replace Pop as coach when that time comes? Avery Johnson would look real nice back home in SA if you ask me.
Bottomline: the Spurs need to man up(RJ especially) if they to have any chance, but this feels like a futile season and a big disappointment.
February 9th, 2010 at 4:33 pm
GMan-
We arent playing Ian/Theo or Marcus the same reason we didnt play Gooden and Hill in the first round of the playoffs last year.
You figure that out I’ll give you millions.
Pop is like this old school coach at a rural high school in the 50’s. He wont play freshmen even if they are more talented than the seniors. He doesnt understand how to adapt to the players. He’s got some mythical idea about how basketball should be played, and wont deviate from his illusions.
He uses excuses and is basically a one hit wonder. He would never be in the league if it werent for Tim and David.
As mentioned before a trade wont help. Because POP would then play whoever has been on the team longer. It took him FOREVER to play Blair, who is LIGHT YEARS ahead of McDyess. And was quoted saying Hill “wasnt ready” to play in the playoffs. What kind of asshole says that without testing the waters?
He used the “7 new players” excuse multiple times when he only used the same people, with the exception of RJ, in his rotation at the beginning of the season.
He cant coach. Plain and simple. He wants to jam people into a system. Thats not coaching. Thats being exposed.
February 9th, 2010 at 4:49 pm
Salmons is a definite upgrade over Jefferson. I don’t like how Tyrus Thomas tries to goaltend every shot, but his athleticism with Blair’s rebounding strength could be a really interesting 1-2 punch.
I was reading this article though, that all the problems between the Bulls and Thomas is that he considers himself a starter and so he should be a starter.
February 9th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Antonio mcdyess stinks. he is always late with rotations gets burned by dribble and overpowered. plus his offense is just as bad. the new guys don’t hustle. jefferson doesn’t contest or close out at the perimeter. and for as much as manu getting thrown under the bus he still is hustling.
February 9th, 2010 at 6:43 pm
If anyone needs to go, it’s pop. Heck, I’ll try Avery Johnson and see what happens!
February 9th, 2010 at 7:05 pm
Spurslady: I am aware that Haislip is no longer with the team. My point is that when he was with the team Pop never even tried him against some of the bigs we’ll inevitably face in the playoffs. Spurs coaches talked about what an incredible athlete he was, probably a prerequisite against some of those guys. But he never got the chance to show what he could do straight up against them. And it’s not like the guys he did try, Timmy, Dyce, Bonner, Blair, did much of a job. Sure he (and Ian) may have been a bust. But, shit man, at least give ‘em a go.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:51 pm
I think a trade is the answer to spurs recent slump. RJ is a big disappointment. He is overpaid and underachieved so far. Trade Finley and Bonner for Salmons.
February 10th, 2010 at 6:10 am
@DieHardSpur
And the last time he came close to his career averages for blocks and minutes was 5 years ago. To think that he is suddenly going to pick it all back up again is a joke.
February 10th, 2010 at 6:35 am
Why are we not looking for a defensive player. all year we have been scoring but we are unable to defend. we need someone to clog up the lane. give me a shot blocker. Let’s be the boring spurs that won championships.
February 10th, 2010 at 6:49 am
Okay guy’s, y’all wanna know what the REAL problem is? It’s just plain team chemistry. Simple as that. How can you expect, a team with seven new player’s to GEL the way the fan’s want to see? The reason we cant play Parker/Duncan/Manu as much as we would like to see them play is due to the fact of injuries and old age.
Now what I question is this. Why didn’t we play marcus as much? Why did he keep malik hairston? Anyways, thats my two cents. Oh, you cant blame PoP for the lack of defense. What big guy’s do y’all want to see being played? We have to use with what we got. Expect to see Ratliff played alot in the playoffs.
February 10th, 2010 at 7:05 am
this, luol ty for rj and ian…its unrealistic though…
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yzqnebc
but this might be a realistic one..
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ykqvdm8
i don’t agree trading mason, its like last yr with all the injuries he even performed like his payed 14 or 15 million unlike rj.his still money.
February 10th, 2010 at 11:32 am
Lets just call it what it is, the Spurs suck on defense and make silly turnovers……and what make ya’ll think that bringing on a new group guys in a trade is going to do the job…..Hell, this group couldn’t get it done in the first 50 games and ya’ll want to make trades with 30+ games left ..LOL….Amazing……
Stop blaming POP….. he aint bricking jumpers, playing bad D, and turning the ball over….LOL…..Amazing
February 10th, 2010 at 1:24 pm
@ Mike –
The has given us 22 block in the very very limited minutes that he has played.
My purpose here is not to say that Theo is our savior, but that he would be doing a helluva lot better job protecting the paint than anyone we are currently using.
(Bonner – 11 blocks) – Way more minutes
(Blair – 29 blocks) – Way way more minutes
(McDyess – 19 blocks) Starting Center – way more mins.
February 10th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
The = Theo
February 10th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
DieHardSpur
I agree. We need shot blockers in the game, particularly when we have double digit leads against good teams.
The Spurs play Denver tomorrow. They have lots of Bigs. Last time the two teams played Tim seemed afraid to stray far from the circle to guard his man at the elbow of the key ; because when he did they were abused on the inside. Consequently, Kenyon Martin had a huge day shooting open shots. Lets see if POP matches big for big in this game. If he continues his trend of allowing large minutes of small ball… the spurs are dead meat. The trades being talked about won’t help.
February 10th, 2010 at 10:07 pm
I’m not sure of the salary and cap issues, but a deal with the Clippers would seem to be the best bet.
I think we would have a shot at competing if we could get Camby & Marty Collins from the Clippers for Mahinmi, Mason (or Bonner), Bogans, + Finley, Ratliff, OR Hairston.
We are in desperate need of a tall defender/ shot-blocker/rebounder in the paint. Although also getting older, Camby is the best out there that fits this bill, and appears like a realistic possibility on the surface (although obviously the chances are still VERY slim).
I don’t know if this would be appealing to the Clippers, but they’re a young team looking to the future and need 3 pt. shooting badly (they shoot it at about 31%).
What do you guys think?
February 10th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Went to ESPN trade machine. Trade proposal I put up doesn’t work. This one might work, and looks more appealing to Clippers over the long run. Novak having an off year but he can hit the three.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ylk3s4c
February 11th, 2010 at 12:25 am
we have splitter next season remember.. he’s probably going to be a star new to duncan. we’ll see, just bench RJ, no one will trade for him.
February 11th, 2010 at 8:26 pm
Time to Rebuild
spurs can still rebuild around Duncan. Jefferson is a bust because we don’t have a true point guard to feed him, RJ would be a legit starter playing along someone like Chris Paul, whereas Peja is a (sometimes high-scoring) disappointment at this stage in his career. Hornet’s will not be able to retain rookie PG Collison (who’s destined to be a starter but can’t unseat CP3), and what the spurs need going forward is a great PG.
If spurs take on Peja to get Collison, they can dump RJ in many scenarios which will work on the espn Trade Machine.
Collison + Stojakovich for Jefferson is an even trade which gives the hornets a better fit at the small forward position.
Or…
Remember that New Orleans wants to part with David West’s 3 years contract and his 18 and 8.
Collison+West+Stojakovich for Jefferson+Parker gives NH an outstanding backcourt with Parker playing alongside and subbing in for CPS in 3 guard rotation. And maybe they go after Tyrus Thomas in the summer. The spurs meanwhile have gotten younger and can make subsequent trades with all the bigs they would have to exchange. Manu can play more minutes (and handle the ball) in the playoffs to stabilize this transition in year one.
And the spurs can still get rid of the expiring contracts to lighten payroll (but resign Manu and Hill) , maybe they sign the big Brazilian Splitter in the summer.
To part with parker and jefferson and get back collison, the spurs could offer the hornets a variety of other trades which would save NH money next season by receiving Spurs expiring contracts.
It may cost the spurs cap tax, but let’s them develop young guards to stay competitive (and profitable) going forward.
February 13th, 2010 at 2:51 am
Make a trade for an active big man..6′10 & up! Some one who will rebound & defend!
If we cant get a big man to stand next 2 Timmy, then we should get McGrady 4 one yr..n if it works out great, if it doesnt then we go hard after bosh in the summer!
- in that trade we’ll get rid of Jefferson’s 2 yrs & another contract
- and houston will eat some of that mcgrady 23 mil
February 13th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Make a trade soon spurs!
