It’s official. The rumor from Woj on Monday that the Spurs would sign Cedric Jackson has, as expected, proven true.

From the Spurs:

The San Antonio Spurs today announced they have signed guard Cedric Jackson from the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League to a 10-day contract. Jackson is the 22nd call-up of the 2009-10 D-League season.

Jackson, a 6-3 guard, had a brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this year. He appeared in five games with the Cavs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 12, scoring one point and handing out two assists in nine total minutes. In 30 games with the BayHawks, Jackson averaged 15.8 points, 7.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 32.7 minutes. He posted season-highs of 34 points and 13 assists on Jan. 19 at Austin.

According to a tweet from Jeff McDonald of the Express-News, Pop said about Jackson, “he won’t play more than 35 minutes.

In addition to not playing 35 minutes, tonight Cedric Jackson will not:

  • Why didn’t they sign someone that could possibly help now? Incase RJ puts up only 3 points again.

  • this is nothing more then a required roster filler. if he gets out of a suite and into a uni for a game i would be surprised.

the only playing time he could/would get is if the game is a blowout either way.

i cant believe they have not looked into a wally szerbiak (sp?) or ricky davis, or mike james? wally i would like to see in silver and black and could bne had for cheap.

  • Fact - no one on the market will help the Spurs at this point. The best option - pick up up a young guy and evaluate him in hope of bringing him into camp next year.

  • Bringing him to camp next year and maybe he makes the roster so Pop wont play him.

  • we now have the missing piece for the next 10 days!

  • ANybody seeing Salmons light it up for Milwuakee?

  • I wanted us to call up Antonio Daniels. He would have been a lot better than Jackson.

  • who? Whe don’t need charity cases. Why not sign someone that has a chance to help the team. Wally fits and can shoot. I bet he does better than 3 points.

  • I believe he used to play with the Jackson 5

  • If I had to guess, the Spurs will simply just keep signing guys to 10-day contracts to meet the league requirements and then bring one lucky D-leaguer along for a free playoff ride.

  • Wally seems cool. But he didn’t exactly deliever for the CAVS. And the Spurs would be asking him to do the same thing he did in Cleveland.

Let’s look on the bright side. Maybe this means more time for HAIRSTON. I hope so. He did put em in the Cavs game. I just don’t think he should be out ther with IAN.

Hairston can play! My bro and I call him the Goon. He just goes in there and bumps bodies. Oh and he can get to the rack. Oh, he can also play D.

  • I don’t buy that BS that there’s no players you can find at this time of year that can help your team. Hailing from the SF bay area, I’ve seen this fact proven several times this year with the Warriors.

Sure, the Warriors are a lousy team. But think about this: their rotation players alone have missed 251 games this season…251!! So obviously, we’ve had to get pretty creative in terms of combing the D-League for talent.

Reggie Williams, a guy they just picked up two weeks ago has been thrust into the lineup and guess what…he’s playing well. Sure his defense could use some work, but he has the ability to get a shot off whenever he wants, and has a great soft touch on leaners and floaters. He’s also shooting 40% from 3. When I compare him to Mason’s wild pull ups from two feet behind the line (or head down drives), or Bogans inability to do anything on the offensive side of the court, I keep wondering why Pop never plays athletic scorers who are willing to work on their D.

When Anthony Morrow becomes a free agent the Spurs should do everything in their power to sign the guy. He’s long, a proven marksman from 3 (46% career) and because defenders are honoring his shot this year, his fake and drive game is starting to come alive.

  • I HATE JEFFERSON!!!!

  • i completely agree with signing morrow. if there’s one thing besides a lockdown defender that the spurs are missing this year, it’s a dead-eye from long range. kerr and barry were two of the all time greats from distance, and it’s key to our system.

looks like hairston is getting a little more burn and delivering. hopefully pop notices and sticks him in more often.

  • Um so can someone tell me why this spot didn’t go to Dwayne Jones??? (I think that’s him) standing
6′11 in socks good rebounder decent defender??

Just sayin …….wouldn’t he help?? But I suppose since Yawn (which has had 3 years poured into him) can’t get into the rotation………….

    I STILL BELIEVE !!!!!!!!!

  • ^They very well could bring him in this summer. It really doesn’t make a difference this year. They can see Jones play in their looser system.

Cedric Jackson plays for another D-League team, so they basically pulled a guy out from elsewhere. If he can perform, he should be back in the summer with the Spurs. That’s the big key in terms of positioning for another tough offseason.

  • if there is anyone in the league they need to sign IMO its a healthy raja bell! they need to make a run at him and hard enough to scare off other teams. marrow is a good shooter and all but he has zero defense and as we see this year, shooters can go cold, defenders last.

  • Why couldn’t they sign me? I could use the extra income while having some great seats for the next 10 days.

Maybe that is what they should do for the fans…Have a drawing every 10 days for the 13th spot so you get the feel of being a Spur and get paid to watch games.

  • EVERYONE REM: POP DID NOT WANT TO CONFUSE THE NEW GUYS. JACKSON SAT HIS FIRST YEAR. BERRY SHOT HIS OWN FOOT OFF. FIN STRUGLED. RJ IS ONLY A TOKEN OF A STUBBURN COACH. POP REFUSED TO TRADE FIN. LOYALTY CANNOT BE BOUGHT. WHAT IS MISSING? THE SOUL OF THE SPURS. POP KEEPS SAYING THE BASKETBALL GODS. HIS CHARITY IS THE ONLY THING SAVING HIM, FOR CHARITY SAVES FROM EVEN DEATH. DAVID, AVERY, AND CUMMINGS ARE GONE. WHICH ONE WILL CARRY THE CROSS NOW? MAYBE THE PIOUS NUNS IN THE STANDS. EVEN OUR OWN MONEYS, SAYS “IN GOD WE TRUST.” KEEP YOUR FAITH SPURS FANS. GO SPURS GO.

  • @ChrisJ Sweet idea.
