Austin Croshere Cut

Mike Monroe is reporting that the Spurs did not extend a second 10 day contract to Austin Croshere, reducing their roster to 14. Couple this with the Mahinmi injury and the Spurs have 4 available bigs on roster: Duncan, Bonner, Thomas, and Oberto. Anthony Tolliver, who at least knows the system, is currently serving a 10 Day with New Orleans. Courtney Sims, arguably the best big in the NBDL, is on a 10 Day with the Suns. Robert Horry is still old. So, stating the obvious, the Spurs need to pick up at least one big man, and soon. But that’s not an easy proposition.

  • Varner,

Where is this 6’10″ shot blocker that Buck Harvey is talking about in his article? I guess a better question would be, who is he referring to?

Another question. This goes back to Tiago Splitter. When will he be available to sign next? Does he have an opt out clause in his contract? Do you think he’ll ever be a Spur? Thanks.

  • Trey,

I linked a Monroe article. What comment are you referring to?

Also, Splitter has a buyout-not an opt out-clause for 2010 and 2012. I’d say he stands about a 50-50 chance of ending up a Spur. Maybe 40-60, the ugly direction. The Spurs are not totally bereft of big prospects, though. Check out my post The Big Man Pipeline for more details.

  • I just wanted to see if you had read Buck Harvey’s column in the Express News about Bowen. In it he referenced a 6’10″ shotblocker but not by name. I thought he might be referring to someone and thought you might know the answer. I actually think he is just referencing a Spurs need, but since he gave a specific height I thought he might be referring to someone. Sometimes I’m not very clear when I write and if this still doesn’t make sense then ignore me.

    here is the article: http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/columnists/buck_harvey/Bowen_gets_a_vote__why_the_Spurs_need_a_recount.html
