Austin Nichols: French League MVP

by

As our readers know, we’re getting to know Austin Nichols this summer. He’s a great guy who hopes to fight his way onto an NBA roster next season, with San Antonio as one target. His resume just got a little bit more impressive-tomorrow he will be named the French League MVP.

Congratulations, Austin. Well deserved.

I just found out a few minutes ago and asked him how the achievement feels. His response was typical of the humility that makes him so likable:

It’s kinda mind blowing to be honest.  Coach told me and I was at a loss for words. It’s amazing that I’m considered to be the top player where there are so many great players.  Then I did an interview with a guy from the newspaper that is set to come out Saturday, which didn’t seem real. It’s a great honor for me because I’ve worked really hard to step my game up to the next level.  It means more than I can say. Now I just want to keep working hard and carry the momentum forward.

A few questions on Nichols for you Tim.

    1. Are we sure he’s a legit 6’6″? He looks a bit shorter and was listed at 6’5″ in college and that data is always suspect.

    2. Do the Spurs and Cavs early summer camps happen at the same time? Is he precluded from attending both? If he can’t attend both, do you have any indication of where he’s leaning towards going?

    Thanks!

I’m not sure about his height. I’m going by his current listed measurement. It’s very difficult for me to discern 1 inch via video. But I can ask him. Others are curious too.

The camps are at different times. Not sure on the Cavs date. My understanding is that he’ll attend both-he’d attend others if the invitations came, I assume. The Spurs mini camp starts on June 16.

    Hope that helps.
