Barroom banter: The merits of Tony Parker, All-Star

The biggest key to this whole puzzle is that he’s putting up the numbers and winning. I mean it’s the end of the argument for me when you put those two together. I just think that people wanted Curry in at the expense of Parker….

There have been a few games where Parker just puts the whole team on his shoulders the way Kobe used to in fourth quarters. I call it “Parker Time”. ie, the end of the 3rd quarter and the beginning of the fourth tonight against the Nets or the Phoenix game.

You know it’s Parker Time when he goes into the post and up-fakes his way to a basket against 7-footers during a half-court play.

Considering 2013 so far, TP belongs ahead of Harden on the All-NBA team… wonder which 6 guards will get the votes.

You can see it’s coming even before that. I noticed he gets a look in his eyes, like “I’m gonna score or make something happen on this possession and the next one and the next one after that”. The earliest I saw it for a game was last year against the Lakers in L.A. when Tony shredded them for 3 quarters. The Lakers had just humiliated us a few days before and TP had that look in his eyes from tip-off.
During the nets game I saw it in the 3rd quarter after the Nets had just taken a 8-point lead. It was like ” Enough is enough, we’re winning this game”.

If Parker played for any of the LA teams, any of the NY area teams, Celtics, or the Bulls playing the way he’s been playing I bet he’d be in the top 5 MVP considerations.

    He’d be top 3.

Yeah and the win/loss record surely help the cause.
