Holiday rapid fire: Alfredo R. Berrios wrote a recap for TrueHoop. You can watch a replay of yesterday’s championship game between Brazil and Puerto Rico here. Tiago Splitter received tournament MVP consideration, but that award went to Luis Scola. More on the tournament from our friends at Pounding the Rock.

Scola is a much better player than Splitter, on his own carried Argentina all the way, and it is not the first time he does it. And he was given away!!
He would had been cheap, and a great tandem with Tim.

I know, its really weird to think the Spurs gave up Scola. I’d love to get a glimpse inside the front office’s head to see what made them give him up.

Duaneofly,
They had to include Scola as a trade sweetener in a Jackie Butler cap dump. No way to move Butler otherwise. This is probably the single most misunderstood move the Spurs have made. It’s not like they wanted to give Scola away, let alone to division rivals. It was just an ugly money maneuver. The bigger mistake was resigning Oberto and Bonner when they did. Had they not done that, they probably could have kept Scola.
