BREAKING: Kawhi Leonard to miss Thunder game after dental procedure
It looked like we were about to get a full-strength matchup between the Spurs and Thunder, but that was before San Antonio discoverd roughly two hours prior to tip on Saturday it would be without Kawhi Leonard for the game.
Gregg Popovich said Leonard underwent a dental procedure on a tooth that has been bothering him recently, and the Spurs were as surprised as anyone their small forward would be unable to go.
Needless to say, a game against Kevin Durant and Co. is going to be a hell of a lot more difficult without the team’s best perimeter defender. In his absence, San Antonio will have to mix and match throughout the night, and they’ll need some extra effort on the boards against the big, athletic front line of Oklahoma City.
This is an sudden, unfortunate development, as it was gearing up to be a great game. The Spurs have shown recently they still have the capability to win any night they step on the floor, but the Thunder are playing better than anyone in the NBA. This is going to be a difficult one.
