De Colo’s Game Winner Against Greece

by

Nando De Colo hit a smooth jumper with under a second less to give France the 71-69 win over a formidable Greek team. I’ll admit that, when we drafted him, I didn’t know much about the guy. But I’ve been excited by what I’ve seen since.

I don’t know why, but the announcer sounded really odd.

De Colo’s stoic reaction puts Tim Duncan to shame.

Odd game. Parker barely played at all in the second half. Diaw didn’t see much action either.

De Colo had two really bad turnovers late in the fourth quarter but more than made up for them with two clutch free throws to put them up by 3 and then the game winning shot.

Team France was already qualified for next round and couldn’t know who they’ll face there, so the outcome was partly meaningless (besides maybe some phsychological upside).
I think Collet planned to rest his starters whatever happened, so Les Bleus ended up with only starters Batum and Turiaf in the last possession.
That was a good move to keep bench players focus, and, the icing on the Greek cake is the win.
De Colo had some very good spurts, and some very bad moments until now. He has some defensive issues, and somtimes prefers a shot when a better decision would be going to the rim.

What’s for sure (as always in these FIBA tournaments): the key game is the quarter finals. You win: you still compete for a medal, you qualify for next World Championships (I mean real, etymological WC, hu hu). You lose, well, you lose.

Such a clutch hit… getting excited for ‘SpurNando’ I’m hoping he will be with the Spurs in 1-2 years… cheers!

It was a strange game because France had mixed feelings about it :
    - they had a 13 game losing streak against Greece spanning 26 years (you read that correctly!)
    - on the other hand, winning and finishing 1st of the group means probably meeting with tournament favorite Spain in the quarterfinals
Buns is right : the 1/4 finals are the most important game. The Greeks clearly did not mind at all losing this game.
