El Conclusion: Austin Daye gets an A+ and some other guys were good too
|Boris Diaw, PF 28 MIN | 3-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 7 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 7 PTS | 0
It’s not like he played poorly, I just think he’s best when he’s looking for his own shot. Still, he’s great as a facilitator.
|Tim Duncan, PF 23 MIN | 9-12 FG | 1-2 FT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 19 PTS | -1
The paint was wide open for Duncan tonight. He only missed one shot in the lane.
|Kawhi Leonard, SF 26 MIN | 6-9 FG | 2-2 FT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 15 PTS | +26
Did some Kawhi stuff, shot a little better than he had been. He also had a block that led Bill Land to exclaim “Kawow!” so that was fun.
|Cory Joseph, PG 35 MIN | 5-11 FG | 2-2 FT | 7 REB | 5 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 12 PTS | +1
Maybe it’s because he was playing against the Summer League Sixers, but Joseph looked really comfortable running the offense tonight and really filled the state sheet. I think his next step should be getting to the free throw line more often. Easier said then done, but he’s young and there’s still plenty of room for development.
|Manu Ginobili, SG 26 MIN | 3-7 FG | 2-4 FT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 5 TO | 9 PTS | -1
Plugged into the starting line up since Parker got the night off. If he hits a couple more jumpers the box score looks really nice. Right now the bigger deal is his minute count is consistently in the mid-to-high 20s and he looks healthy.
|Aron Baynes, PF 5 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 0 PTS | +5
Didn’t do a ton, didn’t hurt anyone on either team, so that’s good.
|Austin Daye, SF 29 MIN | 8-13 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 2 BLK | 0 TO | 22 PTS | +23
Holy Austin Daye! Where’d that come from?! Daye just kept shooting mostly open shots. That’s important because it shows he didn’t force anything, but still managed to take advantage of the opportunities that came his way.
|Jeff Ayres, C 20 MIN | 2-3 FG | 1-2 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 5 PTS | +18
Energy, energy, energy.
|Patty Mills, PG 23 MIN | 6-9 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 3 AST | 3 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 15 PTS | +16
Looked great. I can’t wait to see what he does in the playoffs.
|Marco Belinelli, SG 24 MIN | 2-7 FG | 4-4 FT | 4 REB | 8 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 9 PTS | +23
Really a terrible shooting night, but he managed to affect the game in other ways, which I think was a concern for Spurs fans when he first signed.
Did a great job of managing minutes, while letting guys like Joseph and Daye especially get some extended playing time.
One Thing We Saw
- It’s going to be sooooo easy to go overboard on the Austin Daye game. I imagine he’ll get some decent minutes as the season winds down, but not a lot in the playoffs. Good news is the Spurs hold his option for next season, so if they like what they see he’ll be back for cheap.
