El Conclusion: Shorthanded wins = good grades for all

San Antonio Spurs 111 FinalRecap | Box Score 109 Portland Trail Blazers
Boris Diaw, PF 31 MIN | 5-14 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 11 PTS | +2

Poor shooting aside, it was a nice all around game for Diaw playing more than 30 minutes on the second night of a back to back.

Tiago Splitter, C 26 MIN | 5-9 FG | 5-9 FT | 6 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 15 PTS | +3

Solid defense, great job moving without the ball on offense in his first game back from another injury. He was supposed to play limited minutes and ended up playing five more than his season average.

Cory Joseph, PG 24 MIN | 0-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 4 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +1

The offense was meh, but his real task was checking Damian Lillard for extended parts of the game. He did a fine job until the fourth quarter when Lillard kind of went off.

Marco Belinelli, SG 35 MIN | 7-11 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 20 PTS | +3

Lots of spice. LOTS OF MEATBALLS. Pretty awesome seeing him with Manu back.

Danny Green, SG 36 MIN | 5-9 FG | 3-3 FT | 7 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 3 BLK | 3 TO | 16 PTS | -3

It’s been more hot than icy lately and his defense tonight was solid as well. It’ll be interesting to see what Pop does with Green when everyone gets healthy. The way he’s shooting now, putting him back with the starters doesn’t sound like a terrible idea.

Matt Bonner, PF 8 MIN | 1-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 2 PTS | -8

He didn’t do a ton, but he made his one shot attempt and hustled for some loose balls, so that’s good.

Jeff Ayres, C 14 MIN | 1-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 2 PTS | -3

Thought he’d play more tonight with Duncan out, but Splitter was really rolling.

Patty Mills, PG 29 MIN | 13-26 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 29 PTS | +6

I’d be stunned if he’s not named Western Conference Player of the Week. This guy is averaging 17 points a game in February in just 21 minutes of action. That’s insane.

Nando de Colo, PG 4 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +2

Still masked.

Shannon Brown, PG 13 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 0 PTS | -13

The next 48 hours will go a long way into determining whether Brown gets signed for the rest of the year. First the trade deadline, then Friday’s game in Phoenix, which is the last before his 10-day contract runs out.

Manu Ginobili, SG 19 MIN | 6-10 FG | 4-5 FT | 5 REB | 4 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 16 PTS | +20

Minutes are still limited, but he’s staying extra aggressive and looking like #6MOY pre-injury Manu.

Gregg Popovich

Really doing some amazing work managing the different line ups and various maladies this team is dealing with. He won’t get it, but you could give Pop his third coach of the year award and I wouldn’t argue.

A win in portland should count for 2! And have we ever lost went bonner makes a floater?

  • Filemon

The Spurs were 1-9 in Portland before today. This was a quality win in many ways.

  • Jocco

    Great WIN!
CoJo need to do better with his 3pt shooting, especially in the corner and Thiago need to rebound better, for a 7footer 6 boards, that’s pretty weak.

  • Trey

And the call for Pop to be Coach of year ( 24 Different starting lineups!) …. crickets…..
