El Conclusion: Spurs drop Blazers for eighth in a row
|Tim Duncan, PF 26 MIN | 5-9 FG | 0-0 FT | 11 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 10 PTS | -7
Solid overall performance. Spurs didn’t need to rely on him and Robin Lopez does a good job defending the post. Duncan picked his spots, did a great job on the glass, especially on the second night of a back-to-back.
|Kawhi Leonard, SF 35 MIN | 6-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 9 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 12 PTS | -3
First off, anytime Damian Lillard went on a run, Leonard switched over and forced him in to some tough shots (that’s not to say he shut Lillard down, that’s a tricky thing to do). More importantly, his offensive confidence remains at an all-time high.
|Tiago Splitter, C 25 MIN | 2-6 FG | 8-12 FT | 10 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 12 PTS | +18
The best 2-6 game ever? A double-double, he went to the free throw line 12 times AND made eight of those free throws.
|Tony Parker, PG 30 MIN | 4-13 FG | 1-2 FT | 4 REB | 5 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 4 TO | 9 PTS | -4
Really, really terrible shooting performance, but everything else was fine.
|Danny Green, SG 24 MIN | 5-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 14 PTS | +10
Keep that hot shooting going, Danny. Oh, and don’t airball floaters.
|Aron Baynes, PF 13 MIN | 1-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 2 PTS | +5
I’m a fan of giving the Banger 10-15 minutes a game for the stretch run here. Helps keep Duncan and Splitter fresh and gets him some good minutes just in case injuries happen.
|Boris Diaw, PF 24 MIN | 1-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 3 PTS | +12
Missed a lot of silly, close shots, even when he had a smaller guy on him. Off night, second night of back-to-back. It happens.
|Patty Mills, PG 17 MIN | 5-12 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 15 PTS | +16
The spark plug is back. He can’t replicate or replace Tony Parker, but when Parker isn’t converting on offense Mills is able to come in and become instant offense. And if he’s in with Ginobili and Belinelli, who can initiate offense.
|Manu Ginobili, SG 18 MIN | 4-11 FG | 4-5 FT | 1 REB | 4 AST | 4 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 13 PTS | +8
Not the efficient shooting nights like recently, but he was great overall. And only in 18 minutes of work.
|Marco Belinelli, SG 21 MIN | 3-7 FG | 1-1 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 9 PTS | +16
The head fakes get’em every time.
Two Things We Saw
- We saw a new wrinkle in the Kawhi post game. He backed down Damian Lillard in the post, a double came at him, he quickly passed to a cutting Boris Diaw, who then hit Splitter under the basket. It was great. More of that.
- Spurs have the Lakers, Jazz, Lakers again and Kings in their next four. Win streak could easily get to 12 before playing at Golden State on the second night of the back-to-back.
