Kawhi Leonard named to NBA All-Rookie First Team

Not much of a surprise here, but Kawhi Leonard was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. This isn’t a shocking bit of news considering Leonard finished fourth in voting for the Rookie of the Year Award; although the media voted for ROY and the All-Rookie teams were selected by coaches.

Other players on the All-Rookie First Team include Kyrie Irving (duh), Ricky Rubio, Kenneth Faried, Klay Thompson, Iman Shumpert and Brandon Knight. Normally, only five players make each All-Rookie team, but Kawhi tied with Shumpert and Knight so they placed all three on the First Team.

This is the second year in a row the Spurs have had someone on the All-Rookie First Team, as Gary Neal had the honor last season. Kawhi averaged 7.9 points per game along with 5.1 rebounds and 1.33 steals in about 24 minutes per game as a rookie.
