- Tim Duncan gets a holiday. No, really: Governor John de Jongh has proclaimed April 25, 2009, as “Timothy Theodore Duncan Day” in the US Virgin Islands. World famous basketball player Timothy Theodore Duncan was born on the island of St Croix to the late William and Delysia Duncan…. (HT: 228)
- “Financially, we’re in as good a shape as maybe we’ve been, because we’ve had some great years,” Holt said. We also learn that the Spurs declined financial help from the league. We live in times when everyone’s financial health requires monitoring, but the I’ve often wondered about the Spurs. They’re a small market team with an owner whose pockets are, relative to other owners, shallow. Those things provide the team with an extra incentive to win, no doubt. We’d likely see an exodus of fair-weathers if the team crouched toward mediocrity, which, of course, would effect the bottom line. So there is winning and there is this: “All these years, none of the (Spurs shareholders) took any money out of the business at all,” Holt said. “So it just pays down debt, pays down debt, leaving our debt really low. And none of the owners, luckily, make a living directly off the business. So we’re all in good shape. The Spurs are financially sound.” Good on them.
- I’m slow to this one, but LJ Ellis sums up the George Hill front with this post game 4 thought: George Hill joined Duncan, Parker and Bowen as players who actually helped out. The rookie guard played the final 14 and a half minutes of the game and played better than could have been fairly expected. He hit both of his three-pointers — the second one was with 2:31 to go in the game cut the deficit to three points. Defensively, Hill was tremendous. He defended Terry and held him to 0-for-5 shooting during his time on the court. That’s especially impressive because Terry is the Mavs’ go-to player in fourth quarters. I only had one question after watching Hill play and succeed in the biggest game of the season: what the hell has Pop been thinking? There’s absolutely no excuse for taking Hill out of the rotation for the last three months.
- Tim Duncan talks about the need to knuckle-down.
- Jeff McDonald calls on the bench to provide a little support for Tony Parker and Half-Duncan.

That’s good to hear about the money. I was curious what a short playoff season (like this might be) would do to a team who is used to playing at least 8 or so home playoff games a year.
