Pre-Game Thoughts: Blazers at Spurs

by

Tonight’s ESPN broadcast kicks off at 7:00 ET. It’s something of an internet double feature, with the Spurs game available on ESPN360 and the Toros contest available at 8:30 ET on Futurecast. You know where I’m directing my halftime browser.

No one is certain if Tim Duncan will play tonight, so it’s pretty difficult to throw up a meaningful preview. It’s not inconceivable that these two teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs, which would seem to favor San Antonio. The Blazers are 31-7 at home this season; they’re 18-21 on the road. That’s a pretty sharp drop. Portland has lost 11 straight in San Antonio. So, Duncan or not, this should be a good game. If anything, it will be fun to see how the Spurs develop their post-Ginobili rotation and whether Gooden can string together a series of impressive outings.

“You can hardly move on that. I don’t want a hero. I want a healthy guy.”

I know Duncan gets paid for his body to hurt. I know its still the regular season, but Spurs fans need to ask themselves how much Duncan’s body is worth? If Pop pulls this exact same move in a Round One Game 7, I fully support him.

As mentioned on this site, you should always try your respective best. If you’re the Cavs you try to win in June. If you’re the Wizards, you try to beat the Cavs. If your the Kings, you try to beat anyone.

Adjust your expectations to reality Spurs fans, finishing the season healthy is a championship in itself. It’s worth repeating that Duncan has nothing more to prove: What other player led his team to 4 NBA Championships recently? Is this the same guy you see on the court? When are people going to realize that he is seriously hurt?
