Pregaming: Spurs vs. Hornets

AT&T CENTER — The Spurs are back home for the holiday. After 17 road games in the team’s first 27 games, the Spurs play five of the next six in the friendly confines of the AT&T Center.

  • Kawhi Leonard will see his first action for the Spurs since a November 15 loss to the New York Knicks. Leonard won’t see a lot of minutes, though, according to Coach Pop. For more, head over to the 10 Before Tip that I did at
  • Hornets head coach Monty Williams poked a little fun at Tim Duncan during Williams’ pregame press conference. When asked about the things Tim Duncan is doing in the later stages of his career, Williams said, “He fouls now more than he did when he had legs. You can tell him I said that.” Not exactly fighting words. It was a funny moment, but I went over to Basketball Reference to check the stats, and Duncan’s fouls are actually down when looking at per-36 minute numbers. But really, his foul numbers are what you would expect from Duncan’s career: consistent. Never has Duncan averaged more than 3 fouls per 36 minutes or less than 2 fouls. This season? 2.1 per 36.
  • During pregame shootaround, Spurs assistant coach Chip Engelland had Nando De Colo running through an interesting drill. De Colo would cut past one assistant coach, receive a pass, and have to get a shot up before another assistant coach came over to help. Might we see more of De Colo off the ball at the shooting guard position over the next few games?
