Pregaming: Spurs vs. Knicks
AT&T CENTER — Here are just a few notes from pregame to get you ready for Spurs-Knicks:
- DeJuan Blair will start tonight at power forward, or center depending on who you believe, against the Knicks. In his pregame presser, Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich cited matchups as to why Blair, Tiago Splitter and Boris Diaw have traded starting duties. Coach Pop admitted that teams like the Lakers are just too big for Blair.
- During shootaround, Knicks guard JR Smith was wearing a full sweatsuit that didn’t seem long enough, perhaps taking a nod from teammate Rasheed Wallace, and finished shooting from different locations on the perimeter by making one-handed 3-pointers without jumping. NBA players do some pretty amazing things when the pressure is off and no one is paying attention.
- Per the Spurs pregame notes package, Danny Green is the active leader in consecutive games with a 3-pointer, having connected in 26 straight games. The Knicks’ JR Smith is second on the list with 23 games. Will both streaks continue tonight? Probably.
- According to Coach Pop, Manu Ginobili will be fine to play against New York. Ginobili’s back issues flared up before the team’s game against the Lakers, but he should be good to go tonight.
