Spurs finish off season against lowly Lakers

I’m not going to lie to you guys, Fan Appreciation night at the AT&T Center could be ugly tonight. The San Antonio Spurs are just trying to get everyone to the finish line healthy and the Los Angeles Lakers are both bad and have nothing to play for. We know Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash won’t play for the Lakers, but what about the Spurs?

You’ll recall, Tiago Splitter, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard and Patty Mills all missed Monday night’s game against the Houston Rockets for rest purposes. Gregg Popovich did say he wanted to get everyone some playing time in the final two games before the playoffs start to keep everyone from getting rusty. As a result, I’d expect the Splitter, Green, Leonard, Mills quartet will get some run tonight. But does that mean the Three Amigos will sit? Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili all played versus the Rockets but you’d think they’d all sit tonight just to avoid any freak injuries. Remember Manu Ginobili breaking his arm on the last day of the 2010-11 regular season? Yeah, no one wants that again.

So what can we expect tonight? Personally I’d like to see Patty Mills and Nick Young go shot for shot for a few minutes. Or an entire quarter. By the way, did you hear the one where Swaggy P said he’s the league’s best shooting guard? I also think this will be another valuable game for Leonard to be a focal point of an offense. The guy’s been so confident since returning from injury, all you want to see is for that to continue.

If you’re attending the game tonight, I encourage you to enjoy no matter who plays. It’s been a terrific regular season and while we expect the Spurs’ season to go on for another six to eight weeks, we honestly have no idea when it will end and whether it will be on the road or at home. Yes, it’s Fan Appreciation night, but it’s also your chance to show your appreciation for this team. Should be a fun one. An ugly one, but fun.

Tip-off for Spurs-Lakers is set for 7:30 p.m. Fans still looking for tickets to tonight’s game can find them by visiting our friends at TiqIQ.
