El Conclusion: Spurs hold off pesky Magic

Orlando Magic 112 Final

Recap | Box Score

121 San Antonio Spurs
Tim Duncan, PF 29 MIN | 4-13 FG | 3-5 FT | 10 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 3 BLK | 1 TO | 11 PTS | +15
Pretty awful shooting night, but pretty good everything else. The outside shot just wasn’t there. He was fine in the paint.

Kawhi Leonard, SF 38 MIN | 5-6 FG | 6-7 FT | 7 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 2 BLK | 3 TO | 17 PTS | +13
So freaking dynamic. How disruptive he is on defense reminds me of Scottie Pippen. I’m talking about style, not the quality of his defense (though it’s pretty awesome). The shooting efficiency since his return from injury is awesome and so are the assist numbers.

Tiago Splitter, C 18 MIN | 5-9 FG | 4-5 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 14 PTS | +9
As good an 18 minute game as you can have. I mean, Vucevic had his way in the paint but those weren’t all on Splitter, plus Vucevic does that to a lot of guys in the paint.

Tony Parker, PG 34 MIN | 11-19 FG | 7-8 FT | 1 REB | 5 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 30 PTS | +19
One of those brilliant 2012-2013 Tony Parker games. Right down to hitting big shots down the stretch.

Danny Green, SG 32 MIN | 4-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 4 AST | 0 STL | 2 BLK | 2 TO | 12 PTS | +14
He didn’t miss. All his shots were 3′s. He gets an A.

Aron Baynes, PF 5 MIN | 0-0 FG | 2-2 FT | 0 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 2 PTS | -6
Just be lucky you didn’t get eaten, Vucevic.

Matt Bonner, PF 2 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -6
Prediction: Matt Bonner will be to the Spurs what Mike Miller was to the Heat in the playoffs last year. Only use in case of emergency.

Boris Diaw, PF 22 MIN | 3-5 FG | 2-5 FT | 8 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | -2
Nice, efficient Bobo game.

Patty Mills, PG 15 MIN | 1-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 3 PTS | -7
I mean, he can’t be hot EVERY game, right?

Manu Ginobili, SG 27 MIN | 10-17 FG | 2-3 FT | 3 REB | 5 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 24 PTS | +6
If you can get 50+ points and 10+ assists from Manu and Parker combined, you’re probably going to win. Especially when Manu decides to go off in the second half.

Marco Belinelli, SG 19 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -4
Look, everyone’s allowed to have games where they don’t shoot well or disappear. Let’s just hope a game like this doesn’t happen in April or May.

Jeff Ayres, C DNP COACH’S DECISION MIN | FG | FT | REB | AST | STL | BLK | TO | PTS |
Glad you’re feeling better.

Gregg Popovich

He takes his former assistants out to dinner after he beats them, right?

Two Things We Saw

  1. Kawhi Leonard’s last ten games: 14.4 ppg on 52% shooting, 6.2 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.8 bpg, 3.0 spg. Guy gets it done in so many ways.
  2. Dan McCarney of MySA.com pointed this out on Twitter, but pretty much every Spurs player and coach met Jacques Vaughn after the game to say hello, congratulate him, etc. Just shows you how well liked he was during his time here.
