Yes, we finally recorded another podcast. We were on schedule, doing one podcast a week just a couple of months ago, and then for various reasons we got off track. Never to return.

Until now.

In this episode of the 48MoH Podcast, Tim and I talk with Michael Schwartz of Valley of the Suns about what else? The Spurs-Suns series. Topics include stat geeks, whether Jared Dudley’s play is overrated or properly rated, 3-point shooting and small ball. You know, the important stuff.

    Until Spurs front office upgrade talent and Pop coaches up and utilizes the talent that is brought in, the Spurs suck! Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, they are respectable, nice guys and he (4) rings from yester year. But in terms of being competitive and relevant going forward, they will continue to SUCK.

    Pop is getting his azz handed to him by Gentry. No press? No admittance?

    Certainly not….Pop will blame it on his players as usual, even to the point of saying that they played like dogs.

    Pop coached like a dog all year long. Its as if he is suddenlt a different guy. He should be man enough to admit it! Terrible rotations, obvious inability to make adjustments, and childish favoritism from this coach has landed us in this position.

    That loss was the most embarrassing one Ive experienced since Gervin and Keenon wore the Silver and Black.

    Absolute mismanagement of the team and the personnel.

    Off with his overrated head is my solution!

    The ability of Gentry to nurture the growth of Dragic Vs Popovich and Hairston is astounding(both same draft). Bogans has proven to be basically worthless but Hairston showed potential in his defensive shutdown of Kevin Martin and Kevin Durant.

    Even the development of Channing Frye, a so-so player, now a dependable role player, Vs Ian Mahinmi, drafted 20 spots later in the same draft, doesn’t play.

    Popovich clearly has to change his reluctance to integrate young players into the system with athletic ability, especially with the aging of the big 3. Even more Popovich needs to see it as an imperative to accelerate the integration of young, athletic talent like Hairston, Mahinmi, Hill, and Blair in order to be championship worthy. Hill’s acceleration in growth thru playing time only came as a consequence of Parker getting hurt.

    The last 2 champions had youth @ 2 starting spots. Celtics - Rondo and Perkins. Lakers - Bynum and Ariza.

    Finding veteran moxie to join the Spurs will be hard(free agent Mike Miller should be a target for the Spurs). Working with youth might be more beneficial and adapt faster.

    That’s why what I wrote about 10 players a night playing at least 12 minutes a game during the regular season was precisely to integrate bench depth/reliability and save wear and tear for vets. Gentry has applied this technique and it’s paying off.

    Ive been posting those points all season. Pop failed to get the job done. Failed to develpoe talent and failed to post a competitive roster.

    Maybe, just Maybe, Pop kinda did some freeloading during those title runs. Gainng credit at the expense of a young Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Shaun Elliott, Avery Johnson, Mario Ellie, Robertt Horry, Steve Kerr, Bruce Bowen, Ginnobli and Parker.

    All along, he made it very clear that it was his coaching that put the team over the hump. His genious, his basketball expertise.

    I dont see any of it. I think he is being exposed as mediocre. Sad thing for him is, this fan base wont accept mediocrity now. Its too late. Spurs gave us the flavor of chamionships and we enjoyed the taste.

    I dont blame not one player for this season. Jefferson didnt sign himself, he was signed by Pop and the FO, when we could have signed Vince Carter.

    Jefferson is not the guy. Not at his price. We could have had 2 PF’s and a Center for Jefferson’s price tag.

    “Get this coach out of here”! He has run his course. Maybe he can land a job as Al Gentry’s assistant. Afterall, after three games, Gentry is now Pop’s daddy. His name is secretly Greg Gentry Jr. after that trip to the woodshed!

    Pop never credited himself for any of those championships. The Suns are now 1 for 6 against us since ’03. Give them some credit. This is their championship (beating us). Gentry is NOT Pop’s daddy cuz his players beat us in 1 playoff series.

    Its funny how the haters come out as soon as our team sees adversity.

    Looks like Spurs may be packing it in. You can’t turn the ball over 11 times in the first half of an elimination game against the Phoenix Suns and expect to do anything other than get the fishing poles out.

    Please share with us the instances of Coach Pop letting us know that his coaching was the reason for San Antonio’s titles. For a coach whose famous saying is “get over yourself,” I’m curious to see this evidence.
