Pregaming: Spurs vs. Grizzlies
AT&T CENTER — It’s been just a handful of days, but tonight we’re treated to another Spurs-Grizzlies matchup. For me, this is the most important opponent this season for the Spurs. The Thunder and Clippers will still be threats come playoff time, but I really think the Spurs matchup the worst with Memphis. Tonight, San Antonio looks to take a 2-1 lead on the season series versus Memphis.
- Cory Joseph, recently called up by the Spurs from the Toros after Manu Ginobili’s hamstring injury, was working with Spurs assistant coach Chad Forcier before the on help defense. I believe it had to do with Joseph’s help role in a zone defense scheme. There was much dialog back-and-forth between Joseph and Forcier. Not in a bad way, mind you, it was simply Joseph pointing out what he thought and saw, while Forcier was explaining what the team expected of him.
- In regards to Ginobili’s injury, Pop didn’t give up much as to how the minutes will be doled out. The starting lineup will remain the same, and I would expect Gary Neal to be the backup 2. Patty Mills and/or Nando De Colo should get the share of minutes behind Tony Parker.
- No comment from Coach Pop in the lawsuit that has come forth regarding the Spurs. Not that one was expected, but the subject was at least broached to Pop before the game.
