Spurs complete the signing of Aron Baynes
After a couple weeks of working behind the scenes, likely on buyout and visa details, the Spurs have officially competed the signing of Australian big man Aron Baynes from Slovenian team Union Olimpija. In about 27 minutes per game in Slovenia, Baynes was averaging almost 14 points and 10 rebounds per game.
The team didn’t release details of the contract, but according to reports Baynes’ deal is guaranteed for the rest of this season with two more unguaranteed years to follow.
Baynes should take a similar role to that of DeJuan Blair on the team: limited minutes, but expected to be physical and rebound. Considering the Spurs reportedly paid a buyout in the neighborhood of $400k to sign Baynes, I doubt they’ll send him to Austin for very long, if at all. Then again, I’m wrong on these things all the time.
Baynes will not be in uniform tonight’s game against the Hornets.
And now, here are some fictional quotes adopted from The Dark Knight Rises that we’d like to believe Baynes would say:
“It doesn’t matter who we are… what matters is our program. No one cared who I was until I put on the silver and black.”
*Looks at Deron Williams* “You merely adopted the silver and black. I was born in it.” (via @DavidRob50)
“Calm down, Blake Griffin! Now’s not the time for fear. That comes later.”
“Theatricality and deception, powerful agents for the uninitiated. But we are initiated, aren’t we Tiago?”
“I’m San Antonio’s reckoning, here to end the borrowed time Kobe Bryant’s been playing on.”
*flexes biceps* “San Antonio, take control! Take control of your city. These… these are the instruments of your liberation!”
