Yes I’ve played and if you did you probably held the clipboard or rode the bench. OK let me splain it to you again. If you shoot 4-24 amongst 4 players than you deserve to lose in this situation. Now if you do the same thing and the score is 108-100 then your defense really sucked. Pop would live with those 87 points scored on but not with the horrible shooting. They have been giving up 100 points as of late but last night they held the opposition to 87 and lost! Why? Because a handful of people sucked on offense last night. I bet if they would have won 88 to 87 you’d still be bitching.

Yes one more big so we can accommodate Blair so he can get his playing time.

  • Anonymous

So TD can play 10 minutes every 3 games next season? Right? Oh no?

  • Anonymous

If Pop and Duncan leave after this season then bust the whole thing up and spend some money for some players. There’s nothing wrong with starting over the right way.

  • Anonymous

    Exactly!

  • Anonymous

They’re trying to figure out how they can create a grading system that gives Blair an A+ every game.

I agree Dorie. When the ownership has that kind of Championship breed I would think they would come around to elite status much quicker than others because they lived it and knows what it takes to get there. And two of you may ask well then why hasn’t it gotten there as of late. Well maybe their hands are tied and are in a conundrum as to what to do with their roster because, one being the financial reasons of huge contracts of players that are regressing and not doing anything drastic because of the respect of those players. They are in  a situation to let its course to run out. After this then they’ll go back to doing what needs to be done to get there again. We just need a couple of players to finish their careers so they can get on to the business of doing what they know how to do without their hands tied behind their backs. that’s the reality.

  • TD BestEVER

“We just need a couple of players to finish their careers so they can get
on to the business of doing what they know how to do without their
hands tied behind their backs. that’s the reality.”

    WEAK ASS EXCUSE!!!!!!!!!!

They have been looking for a Center for TD for over 5 years and a Mini-Manu for about the same length of time. They have MADE SEVERAL BAD MISTAKES Over the past 4 years. Either drafting or just plain weird Roster moves. And you think they will just magically come back to their winning ways once TD/manu are gone……. Give me a break.  Splitter will need a center as much if not more than TD needs one now.  TD/Manu are BOTH IRREPLACEABLE.  At least in the reality that our FO will not take a chance on the type of talented players that we need to get to get those types of players.   And when you do, they will just want to move on to Bigger Cities with more Star Power than our cheap ass FO will pay for.  Young players and Vets alike are not gonna wanna sign here and play for POP.  We are gonna have to Vastly over pay for anyone, look at all the recent FA’s that have signed other places. Why would they all of a sudden start signing here??????

  • TD BestEVER

Or a grading system that NEVER REFLECTS TIAGO’s Weak Defense!!!

  • TD BestEVER

TD can still do more than your boy Splitter…….Who spends all of his time living off TD.   Your boy gets to basically abuse SMALLER players because of TD…… when TD is gone, then Splitter will have to stand on his own against those large Front lines on Offense and Defense.  I promise you, he will not score as easy on Pekovic as he did Love.

  • TD BestEVER

Where was Splitter’s offense when it matter……Splitter = CHOKE!!!!!!!  He played the last 5 min and didn’t have a Single point, while Love had 2 or 3 baskets including a drive to the rim from the 3 point line.  Just dropped your boy off.

But you have to love TWO FACED People who clamor “Splitter needs more playing time with TD because of his defense”.  Now that he is scoring and not playing Defense they are all quiet and saying we need to score more……. ABSOLUTE JOKES!!!

  • TD BestEVER

Nope, but I can’t wait to see Splitter try and wrestle with those big boys and you finally get a dose of reality.   TD is guarding Bigs he was never suppose to guard and not for long periods anyway.  Splitter is basically living off TD now and will be left for dead when TD is gone if there isn’t another big for him to hide behind.

  • TD BestEVER

Give me abreak.  Tiago is feasting on ALL SMALL PLAYERS right now.   He is the beneficary of TD on the court because TD is taking all of the punishment and Tiago is getting favorable matchups becuase of it. Playing every teams 2nd or 3rd best defensive big and usually undersized.  You will see eventually.

  • TD BestEVER

Who cares what you shot for the 1st 44 minutes of a game.  You are up 2 points with less than 4 minutes to go against a team under .500.  We should have WON that game and the 5 on the floor(including your boy) didn’t get the job done. PERIOD.  You are just covering up the fact that Tiago Defense was poor and has always been poor.  He was getting schooled and couldn’t answer on the other end.

  • Miayake3637-SATX

You’re right, Titletown. And with only 3 franchises having more league titles, they want to keep it that way–or change it for the better (pass the Bulls). Coupled with the best winning percentage in North American professional sports over the past decade or so, it has led to the reputation of being one of the most efficiently run franchises too. But just has important is the bond and goodwill established by the team with its fanbase and community. The players here that help forged and grow that connection are revered so much that their eventual exit from the team/game is a situation that is not taken lightly (see Peyton Manning). We can hope that the resolution(s) chosen are the best possible for all parties involved- and done in a timely manner.

Obvious that Duncan can not carry a team anymore.  Even more reflective to Spurs chances that Ginobili has to be the glue when he gets injured at some point of every season.

This day has been coming.  The team without a Duncan in his prime; A healthy Ginobili; and Parker left to manifest on his own…Why do they keep prolonging the inevitable of having to rebuild just so ONE more title can be hopefully accomplished with this team as it’s currently structured?  It’s almost as saying to the fans that…they don’t care after the big three have gone; or no longer high caliber; or can’t be counted on to last a whole season…just keep showing up for the “nostalgia”.

  • DorieStreet

That looks like that is the M.O. of the Pacers, too.
Drew Gooden = The Joe Smith of the 2000′s decade (career avgs. in points/rebounds are 1 apart). Both were all-planet in college, but morphed into solid, but pedestrian NBA vagabonds (although Smith was stellar his first 3 seasons).
Gooden, Hedo Turkoglu  –players who came in and did ok but didn’t give us that punch we needed to get another title.

  • DorieStreet

Was Gooden nursing an injury during our very brief playoff run in ’09?

  • DorieStreet

LAL game was 2nd of BTB; 1st game – @CHI -  23/15 (10-10 FT). Gooden also went for 18/13 and 24/12 earlier this month.
Gooden has erupted like more than a few times in his career, but in over 600 games he averaged only 11.8 pts / 7.8 rbs.

  • DorieStreet

FO got complacent (while winning still) in middle of last decade. Celtics did the blockbuster (Garnett & Allen); Lakers countered (Gasol, then Artest). Then the Heat decided to join the arms race, but Mavs finally got it right and beat them to the punch. Meanwhile, our franchise has done little or nothing while all this was going on and now are a lap down and about to be passed again.

  • DorieStreet

Mmm… I believe that situation has been occuring in a North Texas suburb(s) for quite some time now…..

  • Thomasholdren

    Isnt that the PG’s job?

  • Thomasholdren

I will kind of agree with that. But its sad that a kid is better than our “elite” PG.

  • Thomasholdren

    Obviously not. “splain?”

You literally have no idea what you are talking about ANY time you get on here. That is the problem with “blogging.” You literally think that the 4-24 was the reason we lost?

WE WERE WINNING THE GAME WITH 3+ in the 4th.

Are you really that slow? If you played, which is obvious you did not/have not, you wouldnt leave the floor at the end of the game thinking, “we lost this game because 4 players on the bench shot 4-24.” Only someone with an AGENDA says that. Clearly you want Tiago to rescue you from a burning building, but the situation is when push came to shove, and WHEN IT MATTERED, he and parker  disappeared.

There is no way around it. CHOKE.

  • Thomasholdren

The problem with the grades is that they are too amateur. IF you GRADE players you cant grade them on others opinions or your own. You have to be objective enough to fairly criticize each player DURING the game/time that they play.

  • Thomasholdren

I dont think they got complacent. I think POP just got his deficiencies uncovered now that Tim has been getting older. Notice how we dont/cant win close games since our last title….

This is an aspect where NO ONE on here will agree with but is as BLATANT as can be. Pop snuck in the system (by FIRING a coach during David’s injury) then got lucky enough to tank, then draft TD. He has never been as much as a “coach” as Tim has been a player.

Please remind me when Gregg or RC made a “decent” roster move…. you would literally have to go back to the 2000′s when we drafted TP. People want to cite the Manu pickup as a find, but he was a SUPERSTAR in Europe. It wasnt like RC was watching Argentinian Rec Leagues.

Look at the last few years Roster Fails – Bonner, RJ, McDyess, Anderson, Mason, Finley, Bogans, Udoka… Vaughn….

They just keep trying to pound the same system into players that have no business in the NBA, or taking into account the age and skills of our current players.

But yes, I do feel, that gregg will be a classless individual and leave the organization in the toilet. Its on its way.

  • TD BestEVER

I would take those averages – especially with those break out games in between.  I think he would have done WAYYY better here because he would have had TD along with him.

I think it was more his PT was all jacked up that season.  POP wouldn’t give him consistent minutes because of his love affair with Thomas that year.

Gooden only played 17mpg and was producing at 10/4.4 per game in that little time.  So he was playing well.   Just wasn’t getting alot of minutes.  Probably because he didn’t bow down and kiss POP’s ring or something stupid.

  • Thomasholdren

No, that isnt true about Gooden. He was like a 10/5 in 18 minutes I believe (reg season)

He was actually playing decent defense (not very good offense) in the playoffs. The one game we won against the mavs he had like 13pts in 16 minutes. Now I HATE DREW GOODEN. I hate the cavs and Kansas. So I was really pissed when we picked him up. BUT

Pop kept playing Bonner that series for 20+ minutes a game. Again where my extreme disdain for pop came, when he continued to show that he would rather play someone who sucks than be proven wrong.

He also picked up K Thomas whom played and did absolutely nothing.

Though Gooden didnt play better than average in the playoffs he still was light years ahead of Bonner or Thomas.

But Again, gregg wont admit his failures.

  • TD BestEVER

because we are very lucky to get Duncan/Manu and may never gain. So trade Parker to make one more run and get some young rebuilding pieces in the process. Or piece/pick.  That’s what we should do.

  • TD BestEVER

EXACTLY!!!  It’s not like we have been making moves all these years that all failed.  WE HAVEN’T DID SHHHHH!  And becuase we did nothing many other teams have came from behind to pass us.  And some fans are ok with this for some DUMB reason or another.

  • TD BestEVER

Correct – you have to give some indication about how or what you expect from each player then use that as your guide.  That way we the fans can also offer grades and opinions based on something other than our crazy ideas.

  • DorieStreet

Merriam-Webster: COMPLACENT marked by self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or DEFICIENCIES…..

And don’t forget these moves:  2002- Scola – waited 5 years for him to come over; 2005- Mahinmi – waited 2 years for him to come over; 2007- Splitter – waited 3 years for him to come over; 2010- Ryan Richards- waiting 2 years and counting…

  • DorieStreet

/Gooden acquired last 1/3 of season in 08-09:   19 games (1 start), 17.8 minutes per; 9.8 pts and 4.4 rbs.
    In 4 playoff games -  70 minutes; 29 pts, 15 rbs.

  • Thomasholdren

After 1 in MAVS SPURS – DJB is playing Dirk and has not been scored on. Corey Joseph is probably worse than  Chris Quinn on his worst day. Vince Carter is putting a beat down on Leonard (defensive stopper?)….. RJ is keeping us in it.

Well at least Gregg said the truth about the team “got to score….”

Cory Joseph is terrible. He doesnt move on offense and he plays scared and out of control. He even has trouble dribbling the ball up the court while keeping his head up. The first thing on my PG checklist would be Dribble without Looking at Ball.

Earth to Gregg – get Boner out of the game. Literally anyone that he defends gets an offensive rebound and put back.

  • Deeds130

I prefer sports with clear winners and losers versus those based on a judgement panel. Aside from refs, basketball is clear cut: the team that scores more than their opponent wins. No grades. No judges. All of our opinions are basically hot air. But, so what. That’s what we do as fans and pundits. Opinions will ALWAYS vary. Always, always, always. 48′s subjective opinions are fine with me! So are thomasholdren’s or whoever else’s disagreement. Usually when a list comes out, posters respond with their own “more accurate” list, whether it’s a list of the best movies of the year or the all-time ultimate starting 5… In this case it’s a list of grades. It’s not the gospel of anything.

  • Deeds130

I’ve heard more than one former NBA player turned local color commentator say during the game against a Drew Gooden team some variation of, “I sure would like to know what NBA coaches dislike so much about Drew Gooden, he always seems to play well against us when he comes to town. I don’t know why he never seems to stick anywhere. From what I’ve seen he’s quite a player.” And, “Man, I wouldn’t mind having him on our team… This isn’t the first time he’s given us problems over the years.” And, “I’ll tell you what, Drew Gooden has really helped this team. He’s turning out to be a nice pickup for them.”

  • Thomasholdren

    2nd qtr

Really Good Plays: Leonard – Offensive RB – put back:

    Makes Me Question Watching:
    Bonner in the game
    Ian Mahimni abusing Duncan (irony)
Vince Carter Abusing Danny Green and Leonard
    The Frenchman abusing Parker
    neal takes TERRIBLE shots

  • Thomasholdren

And for those of you who continue to talk about Tiago being better than Blair, take today’s game into account. Blair is the only guy on our team who BATTLES defensively. Everyone else is SOFT.

And who ever said that leonard was a defender is an idiot.
