Spurs announce Vegas Summer League schedule
The season is done and dusted for the Spurs, but a new one is quickly emerging. The Spurs will take part in NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, which ideally consists of more basketball than blackjack. 23 NBA teams will participate along with one made up of a mix of NBA D-League players. The Spurs kick-off their schedule on Sunday, July 15 against the Atlanta Hawks at COX Pavilion.
While the majority of players participating in the summer league won’t sniff an NBA floor next season, enough players have used the summer league as a springboard to NBA success that Spurs fans would be remiss to not pay attention. There’s a chance Kawhi Leonard could participate, fine tuning all the things he learned last season as a rookie who had no summer league or traditional training camp to help him.
And then there’s Gary Neal. Neal is probably the most famous of no-name players to show up with a team in Vegas and earn a contract. Neal made a mockery of shooting percentages in 2010 and was signed to an unguaranteed contract in the days following the event. The Spurs are arguably the best team in the league at finding cheap players who provide value on the floor and the summer league is a big part of that equation.
Did I mention 48MoH will be there? No? We’ll have a big presence at the summer league, most of it sober.
