We’re finally back with another 4-Down Podcast. My apologies for not recording one in several weeks, but when things got busy with my day job, the podcast was the first to be sacrificed.

In anticipation of Sunday’s Spurs-Grizzlies Game 1, Graydon and I talked to Matt Moore of Hardwood Paroxysm, NBC Sports ProBasketballTalk and other NBA blogs about the series. We gave predictions, talked about Tony Allen, Matt Bonner and Gregg Popovich, among other things.

Also, the term “gentleman’s sweep” is explained.

We talked for quite a while, so apologies for the big file size to those of you downloading on iTunes. Also, we cursed a few times. Nothing bad, but be forewarned.

Make sure you subscribe to the 4-Down Podcast via iTunes or RSS feed. And leave us good feedback / ratings, I hear that’s what all the cool kids are doing these days.

Parker saids Ginobili is playing after all…

Good stuff. I like and will try to spread your term “gentlemen’s sweep.” I’d define it as usually going up 2-0, losing a lethargic road effort game 3 (often with a huge ref assisted FT disparity for the home team) before responding with a game 4 win and game 5 throttling.

I found the issue of great Spurs ball movement vs Grizzlies scheme of jumping the passing lane to be the most interesting. I look forward to seeing how Pop designs the offensive scheme to take advantage of this, and to how he chooses to defend Randolph at various points of the game.

I like the up 3-0, lose a game, win in 5 the “gentleman’s sweep.” This makes me feel like the series-winning team found ways to win in the first three games, but got off to a bad start in game 4 that they benched their stars and let the series-losing team take one. Then the series-winning team comes together in Game 5 and closes after playing three quarters.

Im interested to see three things this playoffs. How often and how many touches Timmy get. 2 our big man rotation after Matty will he use Blair Splitter-Beims or Novak, or will Novak backup RJ? 3 how will our defense play. Hope Manu is heathy because him playing doesnt neccasarily means hes Ok.

  • TD = Best EVER

“Bonner can’t guard ANYONE ANYTIME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!”…. How can Scouts see this and POP can’t…… If he gets torched, it’s ALL POP’s fault…….. Bonner should only play 5 min or so if he is on FIRE……. and if he is not, he should be in the BASEMENT…………..

i might be a huge nerd, but i love the midi intro. hope you guys bring this back more regularly, because i love the loose feel. it sounds like you guys were having a ton of fun.

Doesnt Andrew have only like 2cm on Tim Duncan? why is his height good enough to bother Randolph but not Duncans?

    Test comment.

    audio quality,much?

ah, the old comments got tossed with the bathwater, huh?

i will say this (in addition to professing midi love): a true gentleman spots an inferior opponent one up front, as long as it’s understood that you have the upper hand. otherwise, on the tail end, it’s just pity, and the idea of a gentleman’s sweep is that of preserving the vanquished’s honor. i appreciate the term though, and wish i’d come up with it.
