The Best Moments of the 08-09 Season: Tony Parker’s Game Winner Against the 76ers

For some reason, out of all the game winners this season, Tony’s insane rainbow shot is still my favorite. The entire team played great, but the only thing that won the game for us, was the “Spurs basketball”. Manu’s quick hands to get the steal and Tony leading the break, only to slow it down and set up a play.

Still the part that sticks out in my mind, was Pop not calling a timeout and Mason wide open, ready to launch another game winning three, only to be passed up for Manu in the corner. Just seeing how all the Sixers’ players just stood and admired Ginobili’s shot is still dumbfounding. Probably one of the reasons why DiLeo withdrew his name from remaining their coach, since his players don’t even know the fundamentals, that you always go for the rebound on every shot.

Chalk this up as another reason why Tony Parker should’ve been higher than 8th in the MVP voting.

That was such a beautiful shot.

Every time I watch that, I wonder what Anthony Tolliver had to say to Tony. It’s almost like Tony is a rookie and Tolliver the vet is offering some words of wisdom. Weird, haha.

Also, knowing the outcome allows me to laugh at Manu’s 3. There’s something about how it bounces back (watching from the first camera angle) that’s just funny to watch.

Honestly, watching the video he didnt really have as good of a passing angle to Mason as he did Ginobili. Aside from the fact that Ginobili is probably higher on the go-to list for Parker, Mason’s defender did a better job of cutting the immediate passing lane off and since Parker is right handed the pass to the left was the easier pass especially considering it was the direction he was going in.
