Tim Duncan to Return for 19th NBA Season

TIMMAY!

Not that it’s a surprise, but Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News has reported Tim Duncan will return to the court for his 19th NBA season — a season during which he’ll turn 40 years old come playoff time.

We’ve been expecting this news for quite some time, especially amidst reports Duncan was in Los Angeles in the team’s meeting with LaMarcus Aldridge. The old man was unbelievable during the 2014-15 season, and has somehow been able to play at an All-Star level as a 39-year-old — something few have been able to do before him.

He was arguably the Spurs’ best player during the team’s first-round loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 17.9 points on 58.9 percent shooting, 11.1 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals in more than 35 minutes per game.

Nobody is ready for this guy to hang ’em up, so we’re glad he’s not quite ready either. Should the Spurs be able to lock in Aldridge in the coming days, there will be quite a front-court in San Antonio.

And now we wait for the Manu Ginobili decision, one that’s almost certainly been made more difficult with the knowledge that Duncan is indeed returning to the floor on which he’s spent his entire career.

Contract details have not been revealed, but this will be an important detail to follow in the Spurs’ pursuit of Aldridge.

We will have to wait a while until the Silver & Black #21 is hung in the rafters of AT&T Center.
Keep ballin’ out Timmy—-lead the Spurs to title no. 6!!!!!!

If Aldridge doesn’t give them a decision by July 4, move on to grab David West and another rotation big. Additionally, he’s not serious about winning if he choses LA, PHX, or Toronto in which case, the Spurs are probably better off without him.

Any chance West signs with the Spurs for the vet minimum or only a couple million for the chance at a ring?

West is probably in no rush since actual signings don’t take place until July 9, so I don’t think the Spurs need to put an ultimatum on Aldridge. It is also possible West would not be as interested in the Spurs if LA signs elsewhere.

I would probably agree if he went to the Lakers. However, the Raptors have made the playoffs the last two years and it doesn’t take much (adding Carrol and LA) to increase your odds playing in the East. Could argue half the east is a Lebron James injury away.

Phoenix was in the playoff hunt and has a rim protector in Chandler and a lesser version of Westbrook in Bledsoe. If the Spurs don’t get LA, the team initially looks diminished until they replace Splitter/Baynes, and Dallas or the Clippers status will rise and fall on what Jordan decides.

All I am saying is in my opinion it would not be irrational for LA to pick either of those teams. He shut the Knicks down without even a meeting, and was vocal that the first Lakers’ pitch didn’t focus enough on basketball and was more about the market. That has to be indicative of his intentions.
