Waiting On McDyess

We’re all practiced and ready to pounce as soon as news hits the wire… It looks a little like this behind the scenes:

Oh. And what are you doing to pass the time? Do tell.

  • I know the feeling. I’ve been waiting and hoping and hoping and wishing….

  • Refreshing 48MoH constantly… :P

  • Ditto. Along with San Antonio Express. I’m checking this site so often I think I’ve developed some sort of obssessive compulsive disorder.

It’s also a tribute to how well you guys cover this team. Much appreciated.

  • I’ve been searching “worst band ever” on youtube.

    This one is classic.

  • Loved this show. My favorite recurring sketch was the ‘dictators in the bathtub’ skit!

  • Crunchin Numbers.

  • gotta cover all your bases. been looking for this one for awhile and the one where jan hooks plays a dead, long-winded mother in a video will. they go to fast-forward it and, of course this is all live tv, so jan goes “wee, wee ,wee, wee, wee, … ” in a high-pitch. besides the sarcastic clapping family, that one was the greatest

  • Senselessly refreshing 48MoH and waiting for France to be destroyed by a fireball.

  • what the … “This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions”

    What have I been doing:
I’ve compulsively been checking everything that remotely could break news about the Spurs since the RJ trade. 48MoH, PtR, MySA, SAEN, ESPN, Yahoo Sports, SI.com, etc.

  • GMT: “No one ever says Italy.” :P
If not for France we’d have no Tony P, no Mahinmi and no Nolo Contendre (I know, I know).

  • MySA is reporting Haislip has officially signed and Hairston was signed with partially guarantee contract:

“In an separate release, the Spurs also announced the signing of swingman Malik Hairston, who spent some time with the team last season in between trips to Austin. Hairston’s deal is believed to be only partially guaranteed, an incentive to get him to commit to the Spurs for training camp in the fall.”

  • I was just about to post the Haislip/Hairston link. Now our roster is basically done, just waiting for McDyess.

@SAJKinBigD: I guess I wasn’t thinking things through. France has done a lot for our Spurs. Nice with the “Nolo Contendere,” it fits him for now, haha. I always thought of his name being used for some strange soft drink. Nando de Colo, think about it. . . .

  • I have been visiting multiple websites waiting for the McDyess news to drop. But 48MoH is still my favorite.
Also watching as Mavs try and steal Marion away from Toronto. Like we don’t have enough match up problems with them.

  • How will signing McDyess affect signing Splitter next year? Especially in light of the decreasing cap number?

  • Drew,

Great question, man. I’ve thought about that a lot today. Here’s my take: I want McDyess. But if there was any way for the Spurs to get Tiago Splitter this summer, they should do it. He would save them a ton of money over the next two years. Maybe 20 million. He’d also rival McDyess in terms of production. And he’s younger. But I think that ship has sailed.

Re: Splitter next season. I don’t think the news will affect him one way or another. He’ll assume part or all of Bonner’s contracted money.

  • I would love this roster:

    Duncan/Mahinmi/McDyess/**Bonner
    Gooden/DeJuan Blair/Marcus Haislip
    Richard Jefferson/Michael Finley
    Manu Ginobili/Roger Mason
    Tony Parker/George Hill

I believe there is one more player than allowed. I would love to give Bonner away.
    Will Goodwill take him?
Is there a returns policy in the NBA that we can use to send him back to Toronto?
    ;)

    Inactive List:
    McClinton, Malik Hairston, James Gist

  • Of course, roster above is pretty unrealistic, I guess. Can’t imagine what kind of contract Drew would get now that we have signed Marcus Haislip to our bi-annual exemption. I was really hoping Marcus got a vet min so that we could offer the exemption to Drew.

  • StreetBalla,

We already have a strong sense of what the roster will look like. Not much need to speculate.

    Duncan/Mahinmi/Bonner
    MLE (McDyess)/Blair/Haislip
    Jefferson/Williams/Hairston
    Mason/Ginobili/Finley
    Parker/Hill/McClinton

That’s 15. The guy fighting for a spot is James Gist, and if he made the team he’d play in Austin next season. In order to make the team, he has to impress the hell out of the coaching staff in SL. So much so that they clear a roster spot for him through a trade or by waiving Williams or Hairston or not signing McClinton. But the roster is more or less full.

  • Thanks for the quick reply. As above the only part of the roster I don’t like is Bonner. Is there anywway we can get some value out of him?!!

  • StreetBalla,

I’m sure he has some value. He’s a decent player with a niche skill set on an expiring contract. The trick is that the Spurs wouldn’t want to take a player back. Easier said than done.

  • McDyess is coming to the Spurs according to Yahoo sports:
