Spurs vs. Bucks: Notes from Shootaround

by

Here’s just a few notes from shootaround before the Spurs take on the Milwaukee Bucks tonight:

  • Tiago Splitter worked with Spurs assistant Coach Chad Forcier before the game. Splitter did a drill where he had to rebound the ball and go back up strong while two big assistant coaches hammered him. He then worked extensively running the pick-and-roll with Forcier. To finish his work, he took some time to have fun and be the ballhandler on the pick-and-roll, with the much smaller (probably 5’11”) Forcier setting picks for Splitter. Splitter capped it with a pull-up 3-pointer. I don’t think anyone else could take take drills seriously after that.
  • Splitter also worked on shooting 3-pointers from the corner a little bit, which I thought was interesting.
  • Splitter also practiced shooting free throws one handed, with his guide hand (his weaker, left hand) of the ball. Usually players do this to learn to balance the ball better on their shooting hand.
  • Lots of questions pre-game for Coach Pop about his future, after Johnny Ludden’s story from Yahoo! today. When asked about his request to be a consultant in a few years, Pop asked “Am I getting fired?”

Sad to see Splitter’s minutes so low, then I saw he left the game with a bruise.
    Duncan with 7 blocks!!!

I was at the game and they showed that replay a couple times on the jumbotron. I’m pretty sure the injury was more cup check than thigh bruise. It’s not a fun sound hearing 15,000 people all wince at the same time. From they angle they showed, I’d say he’s straddling a bag of ice on the plane ride to Denver.

    On another note…….

Sometimes i wonder if this sort of information (Splitter practicing 3 pointers), might give away our ‘secrets’ to the rest of the NBA?

Just a thought….even though i love reading such notes, if it jeopardizes the team’s secrets, i would rather not know and be surprised and in awe, when Pop run a play for Splitter to knock down a 3 at the buzzer:)

    Go Spurs!
